That is no way to talk of the Athens of the North!

Don't get me wrong, I love York, but Lendal Bridge ain't the most picturesque bit! It's dramatic enough when the river is up but there are better views from Ouse Bridge.

I reckon if the council want to make it nicer to be on Lendal Bridge (which is their reasoning) they should make one pavement for dawdlers, and one for people actually trying to get somewhere!

Indeed.
I was in your fair city on Thursday, but had to elbow my way along the 120cm cycle lane over Skeldergate Bridge on my way to Howden. This time I was particularly careful at the right turn in front of the chippie.

The most annoying thing about that bridge, when I'm trying to walk to the station, is all the bloody tourists ambling along three abreast at 1mph, photographing random crap.

They also spill into the road without checking that it's safe to do so and I've had plenty of close scrapes as I've cycled over the bridge.

Ha! Tourists on the bridge at Whitby are the best, I reckon they should have one way pavements there.

Anyone remember the Manchester bollards scandal

Big fully lit flashing signs beside the bollards, yet still the muppets tried to get through.

Then S@fespeed and the Association of Bad Drivers started bleating about how the City Council was trying to kill drivers!

I love that video.

There is, if anything, over-compliance with part time bus lanes. It gives rise to a relatively minor problem with the more aggressive drivers using them to undertake at speed.

There is a very simple solution to that issue - make bus lanes 24hr. Then there can also be no concern about motorists not knowing the timings of the bus lanes, they are all permanent.

For really fast speeders you could allow the Police to open fire...

Surely York should be Venice of the North, considering how often it seems to be underwater.

Indeed!

Bits of it were underwater again on Thursday, and if we get the torrents they are predicting for Sunday night, they'll be under again.

The sunken burned out yacht (gin palace) outside the Kings Arms was even more sunken for a while.
