It's always the way, isn't it?

In my case, they didn't spot the admittedly tiddly Italian hallmarks and 750 stamped on the link next the clasp. It was in a box of costume jewellery items.
You'd have thought the auctioneers would have checked before letting it up. I mean if that was something of mine they were selling, and they put as much effort into valuing it beforehand, I'd not be happy.

Yeah, true. But then again, the seller can always ask for a reserve on an item. In this case, both the seller and auctioneer erred.

Tell me (serious question), what does "water resistant" mean as against waterproof ?
If they mean the same then 50 metres seems very deep to me.
Water resistant, it can stand the pressure briefly.
Waterproof, it can withstand it, usually for a given period, but longer than if it were water resistant.

It's a static pressure measurement. So be careful in heavy rain.

The same model is for sale below at £585 less, though it doesn't have it's original papers, unlike the one I saw. Are both watches were the asking price and which would be the better buy @Regular.Cyclist, @Reynard, @Drago and anyone else who might know? The local jewelers watch is sold with a 2 year guarantee with the seller saying he'd consider any repairs doing for free after those 2 years. The one online also has a 2 year guarantee though I don't know how much the delivery would cost.

I didn't buy the above watch. A friend told me today that her friend is selling a Cartier watch with box and papers for £2,500. She said she'll bring it to the clothing shop I work in next Thursday to let me have a look at it. She said it looks much better than the above and also has a metal, not a leather bracelet/strap, which I prefer.

Here is the Cartier watch I mentioned. I tried it on but it was too small to go over the widest part of my hand. The seller said I could ask a jeweler she knows and trusts if he could obtain a link for a Cartier Panthere and fit it for me if I want to buy the watch. I've looked at such links on fleabay https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_...nks&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_od I wouldn't know which one to buy and they aren't cheap either! The seller wants £2,500 for the watch. It has all the original paperwork and was made in 2001 according to the paperwork.

This is exactly why I'm not a fan of watches with integrated link bracelets * when buying secondhand (and vintage). If the bracelet is too big, then that's not an issue, but if the bracelet is too small, then you're off on a hunt for extra links. And then there's no guarantee that you'll find the right ones (WITH the pins), and if you do, you can be held over a barrel when it comes to the price.

It's up to you whether you want to take the plunge and pay the extra, but you might end up spending more than finding the same watch with a bigger bracelet.

* it's different with a Milanese type bracelet, as they are infinitely adjustable anyway.

But if I did, I bet the watch would be a lot more than the asking price of the one above. I'm going to ask the recommended jeweler either tomorrow or on Saturday if he can obtain a correct link and how much it'll cost for the link and fitting. If he says it could be £300 then I'd say it's worth it. No way will I be buying the watch then asking if a link can be fitted! I'll show him the above photos and surely he'll either say he can or it'll cost too much etc. 🤔

The seller wants me to buy the watch before finding out if a link can be fitted, saying the jeweler will get a better idea about fitting another link if he can see the actual watch, not a photo, but I doubt that and think if he's as good as she says he will know just by looking at those photos. I did suggest she let's me take the watch to him before buying it, but she definitely wasn't having that!!
