An original in great condition fetches a reasonable price. I believe Citizen and Seiko did one too and are worth even more, but sadly, a lot of people in the 80's used the nib of a biro to press the buttons are many are wrecked and getting parts is exceptionally difficult.

Even non-working ones seem to command a bit of a wodge. Probably for said parts, I'd imagine.

The Timex is 5 quid short of a grand less than the Rado watch. Is the similar retro designed Timex better value? 🤔

i like the retro digital watches. I had quite a few in the late 1970's, early to mid 1980's. While looking at retro Timex watches, this caught my eye.

My neighbour who was ripped off with that shoot Rolex copy told me yesterday that she phoned her bank about it. They told her that she has a good case for reimbursement, but she has to wait 2 weeks after receiving the item before they can do anything. The seller has the right to reply within 14 days to her "I want a refund" messages. If they don't then her bank will start the ball rolling.

I first read about this on the perezcope site. He doesn’t post often but his articles are an eye opener when it comes to the murky world of high-end fakes and the complicity of the major auction houses.

I had one of those Casio IR remote control watches in the 90s. I programmed it up to my Sky remote and had years of fun when visiting people's houses, or when sat outside Dixons in the shopping centre.

With vintage watches, fakes are a live issue once you leave the "bargain basement", though far less with ladies' watches, thank goodness. But the chicanery and the lengths some people seem to go to in order to fake a watch is just bonkers.
Thankfully, there are a lot of knowledgeable people out there who have a good eye for detail and are real experts in their field, more so than some of the actual so-called experts. I really do admire perezcope's nerdiness.
Mind you, my local, fairly provincial auction house (Rowleys) had a fake Speedmaster up for sale not that long ago, but thankfully it got pulled before someone got burned. How they didn't catch the spelling error on the caseback is just nuts. Of course, the Phillips Speedie is a different kettle of fish to a well-known and fairly common fake. To a lay person, the Phillips Speedie looked pretty convincing enough. But money is a powerful motivation, especially at the poncy end of things...
Although one thing I've noticed, especially with the older stuff is that bits do get changed and some watches end up being a bit like Trigger's broom. Things break and wear out and get fixed because BITD a watch was a useful everyday tool. Of course, a collector wants as good and as unmolested an example as he or she can get their hands on, and that's what creates the demand.
There's a big difference and yet oh-so-fine a line between an honest repair to keep a well-used watch in service and something pretending to be what it is not.

I've just had a text from my neighbour, regarding that crap fake Rolex. She said her bank has refunded her money, saying it's her's providing the seller doesn't dispute the refund. I think it's safe to say they won't be doing that. I think dodgy seller will work on a 'win some, lose some' business model!! 
Anyway, she has @vickster to thank for telling me how to go about getting her money back!!
