I'd feel cheeky asking for that. I think the watch already has a decent reduction, then there's another ten percent off with a code you add when ordering. However, I am a bit dubious about the RRP price. I've searched to find the watch for that price but haven't found one, but I did find quite a few similar to the one in question, but not cheaper and without ten percent off.

£570.50

RRP £815.00 (-30%)

Seen it at a lower price? Price Match Promise.

True, 30% is a good deal and the asking asking price isn't bad for a Certina with an automatic movement and 80 hour power reserve. But there's no harm in asking. A quick google suggests that the RRP is £815 as some other online watch & jewellery places are quoting the same.

I say go with your gut - if you fancy it, go for it.

I also like that Herbe!in so had a bit of a scout round and this site seems to offer good discounts.

They're not a bad outfit and I've had a couple of decent deals off them in the past. Although most of the UK dealers play the same game and will offer decent discounts when they need to shift stock or hit sales targets. And there's the usual Black Friday stuff.

With less common brands like Herbelin it's usually a case of keeping an eye on the authorised dealers who stock then brand you want. That's assuming you want new from an authorised dealer. Otherwise there's always Fleabay or Chrono24.

I bought the watch last night, It's due to arrive tomorrow. I think I'll like it, but if it's 'not me' it's easily returnable but I doubt I'll not be satisfied. I decided to buy it after thinking I didn't have a light coloured face wrist watch. Though I have 2 gold pocket watches with gold faces. The three wrist watches I already have have dark faces, two black and one burgundy.

Nice one Accy, sensible approach. I have found (to my cost) in the past that having pieces that are too similar in one way or another usually ends up with one or more being sold.

Yeah. This. It's good to ring the changes.

Today, am wearing an automatic with a blue dial, baton indices and day-date indicator. Yesterday it was a hand-winder with a white dial, arabic numerals and just two hands. Tomorrow? Pfffff, goodness knows LOL!

Although before I got into watches during lockdown, I wore the same Seiko every day for nearly 30 years! That said, I'm a girl who likes bling but doesn't wear any beyond a locket, and so a watch is both a practical thing *and* a bit of "feel good sparkle".

Coincidentally I started the watch thing about 20 years ago but then had a long gap and re-started in lockdown. Good lockdown hobby I guess.

In my case, it was more the fact that everywhere was shut, my Seiko was eating batteries like they were going out of fashion, and I needed a watch.

So I bought a vintage 1970s Gradus automatic for £7 on the Bay of E and the bug kind of took hold.

That's a very cheap rabbit hole to fall into 🙂

Well, the servicing's not so cheap when it's needed, but in a time where most folks are wearing smart watches, it's nice to give vintage mechanical watches a new lease of life. And it's one less watch and one less battery that ends up in landfill.

Though I do stay away from pin pallet and pin lever watches. And chrome-plated cases.

Then there's all the history and mechanics and technical stuff to read up on too, which are rabbit holes in their own right. Mind, as a mechanical engineer, I find it cool. You've a spring converting potential energy to kinetic, powering what is essentially a step-down gearbox with a visual display. Just watching a movement working is mesmerising...

The watch arrived the other day. I'm not keen on the box you'd expect with a 2 to 3 hundred quid watch, but I'm happy with the watch itself!
