It was Hamilton Academicals that always got me, that and the teams that ended in 'Albion' names that belong to another time and place along with Dogger, and German Bite.
Let me ask Lucinda. She's got money on the game. We were talking about the game this morning in the canteen. She supports Ebbsfleet so is up to date with things at the lower end of the leagues. Then we took to wondering what or where Accrington is and was and then IT Steve started going about Accrington in a Scouse accent.
I used to keep an eye out for the 'Total Network Solutions' results in the Welsh League. I was gutted when the club changed their name to 'The New Saints' - honestly, there's no respect for traditional football club names these days!

I'm so happy User1314 has started this thread!:hyper:If it'd been me folk would've complained of bias, but as it's someone else's thread i will now enjoy adding little bits to it!! We are bottom of the whole Football League while our neighbours/rivals Burnley are top of the Football League. If we survive by one point and "the Dingles"(Burnley)miss out on promotion by one point it'll be the equivalent of winning the European Cup to us!!

Now you are famous, when are you moving Accy?

Weren't AC founding members of the football league? Or was it foundering members? Oh well, at least the Empire State Building stayed up, something that AC never quite managed.
No, it's a common misconception this and Stuart Maconie made the same mistake in his book 'Pies and Prejudice'. Accrington were indeed founder members of the Football League but Accrington Stanley were not. Two different teams you see.

Well we are 2 different teams, but the football world accepts Stanley as being the team that comes from the town where the former members were based. So Stanley are classed as one of the original 12. Stanley and Accrington FC weren't rivals like Say Bristol City and Bristol Rovers are for example. Stanley were formed from other clubs in the town, including Accrington FC and Accrington Villa. The town only has a 30 odd thousand population,so people like the idea of such a small town and club being "original members"even if they technically weren't,so they accept us as being original members of the Football League.

No, sorry to be pedantic but they most definitely are not classed as one of the original twelve. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accrington_Stanley_F.C._(1891)
