I was edumacated in a 50s sec mod school so things have moved on.
I have just found out that in math calculations the is a rule called the order of operations.
The question was........what is 7+7÷7+7 to which I answered 9 as in.....
7+7=14 ÷7=2+7 = 9.
The order of ops says you you do the x or ÷ then the + or - which gives......
7÷7 = 1 then 7+1+7=15.
Its the order of bollox to me but my son apparently not.

You beat me to it. That was drilled into us by our maths teacher about 60 years ago!

(Before calculators or computers were available to school kids, so we were doing the calculations ourselves and therefore needed to know this rule. We used slide rules and books of log tables to help us with calculations that did not need to produce precise answers.)

Yes, maths was my worst subject by a country mile and things like that just put me off even more.
