That's actually a better characterisation of forums like this very Cycle Chat than it is of Facebook, which (at least in my experience) is used exactly for the purpose of staying in touch with real-life friends and neighbours.Rigid Raider said:FFS I can't believe all this discussion about a website for sad social inadequates who can't get off their chairs and go out and meet neighbours and friends.

Im a bit saddened that someone can nick my very uncommon name and use it on a site like this and I can't seem to stop them.Possibly if there is someone who really want's to get in contact with me from my past I hope they will not encounter this comedian imposter.
hackbike 666 said:I have had it pointed out to me recently that someone has set up an imposter account of my natural name which isn't a common name and of which I am unaware of anyone in London having the same name as me,where this person claims to come from.As some of this persons 'friends' are from a messageboard website of which I frequent then I suspect the guilty party must be from the same messageboard.
I have had a word with Facebook about this but have basically got nowhere.
Can I copyright my name and then 'force' facebook to back down.(It is an unusual name of which I used to hate)It was the butt of jokes on this certain messageboard but as I didn't really bite for once it soet of died out apart from the fact of this facebook imposter.
I think the Facebook people are a bunch of)'s for allowing this to happen.
Has anyone got any tips and advice?

What an arrogant preposterance.
What makes you think you have any more right to copyright your name than if you were, say, called "John Smith" or "Joe Bloggs"?

His name is rare, its his. No-one else should have his name because its his!

bonj said:In fact, the above aside - if you genuinely suspect that he is doing it just to nick your friends or annoy you - the symptom of that problem would be that any given (potential) friend has a 50/50 chance of finding you and a 50/50 chance of finding the impostor.
Well, you may not be able to solve the problem but you can treat the symptom - simply set up 99 more accounts with your name so they only have a 1% chance of finding him, and a 99% chance of finding you.

Wigsie said:Ha ha this is a better idea than adding him as a friend! what about letting us all set up accounts for you so your name is suddently not as uncommon and you dont feel so wronged!
Joe24 said:That wont work, he wants his name copyrighted!!!!
