Hi all,had this bike given to me today,was very rusty etc,been sat in the garden,anyway I've loosened it up,running freely now,more or less,problem is when you peddle the bike the back wheel doesn't turn only the rear cog,not seen this before,any one know what's going on here?thanks .

I had that problem on one bike. I got it working again like you a few times, but eventually I ended up taking the freehub to bits and fixing it properly. The pawls** were gunged up. I cleaned everything and then used a light oil to relube the works. I had no more problems with it after that.
Another freehub died completely when the spring operating the pawls snapped. A new spring was needed to sort that one out.
** Little spring-loaded wedges that engage in slots inside the freehub one way to provide drive, but slip the other way to allow freewheeling.

It is, in two words "not really".
It's a pretty old Apollo Kanyon, and I suspect the free hub won't be the last of your woes with it. Unless it's your only option it's not worth spending much on.
Weren't you after a lighter folder? I'd keep on the hunt for one of those and use this to learn some maintenance on.
I got two folders now,this come free today,yes that's a good idea,can use it to learn on, everything seems ok on it and it's dual suspension,I don't mind old bikes as long as they work properly.

Glad you got sorted with the folders.
That being the case, definitely use the Kanyon to practise stuff on: if it was free it doesn't matter if you break something or it goes wrong.
I spent more time than I care to remember tinkering with mine to keep it running!
Chances are it's a freewheel rather than a freehub. If so, this is good news for you. Could you take the wheel out of the frame and take a photo looking directly at the sprockets at the back? This will tell us two things, firstly if its a freewheel rather than a freehub, and also if it is the brand of freewheel.
You can take a freewheel off with a £5-£10 tool and simply screw a replacement on - hence why it could be good news for you.
Ultimately that bike is probably about 15 years old and if as you say it's been left out doors for most of that time lack of maintenance could be problematic. I'd also want to make sure that the seatpost comes all the way out and check the bearings elsewhere to make sure they're in good condition. So that's headset (where the handlebars rotate), the bottom bracket (where the pedals and crankset attach) and the wheel bearings in the hubs. If the grease has washed out you run the risk of ruining the frame/component, worth checking on youtube how to service a bike - of course if you're not confident / interested a service from your local bike shop wouldn't be the worst choice.

might be cheaper to buy a new wheel with gears already included by the time you have paid someone to sort it out , 26 " wheel with a7 speed freewheel ?
