My advice on buying from PC World?

Dont. They are a rip off. They also are unlikely to know what they are talking about.

Buy online. PCW is crap.

Personally I would avoid PC World like the plague, had nothing but bad experiences with them. They even had my mum in tears over a purchase she made that went wrong until I sorted it our for her

Yeap, PC World are to computers what Halfords are to bikes

With PC World, it all depends. If you know what you're doing and the price is good then they can be OK. I bought a Netbook from them a few months ago because they were the equal cheapest, including on-line. After a couple of weeks, I tried using headphones with it and discovered that one of the channels wasn't working. I took it back to PC World and they replaced it on the spot without any quibbles because it was inside their 28 day return period.

Some of their brown box (as opposed to retail-branded) hard disks and DVD RW players can be good value.

It's just daft to say don't buy from PC World. Like anything, do your research first before you go there rather than rely on their advice. If their price is OK then way up the pros and cons of buying (and potentially returning) goods from a shop versus on-line.

Well, I still haven't bought anything, the weather has been too bad to do anything that's not absolutely necessary. Knowing me, I'll leave it and leave it and then will have spent the money on something for the house, like a new front porch!

Where did you get the hard disk and how much was it? New Apple parts are very hard to get outside of the dealer/approved repair network and they are not cheap relative to the equivalent PC part. In my opinion you're paying for the name and style with modern Apple products. The quality is no better than average now.

My iMAC's hard disk is a bog standard SATA drive. No different from a PC disk.

YMMV.

Also be aware of the net prices.

I use (or abuse) them as it emnables me to try hands on before I buy, but the shop prices can be some 20 - 30 % above the net price.

Simpy ask for the net price and when they refuse, get out your mobile and ring the order line and ask for collect at store. Then give the sales oik the order number and pay the net price he has just refused you!
