advice regarding a ribble racer

hiya,

im trying to find a decent road bike on a small budget and only discovered ribble last week. what is a 2nd hand ribble road bike worth with the spec below? realistically is this bike useful enough to move from mtb to training for audaxes? i am considering a fast tourer for audaxes but thought id have some fun while i was building up my mileage and stamina.

i think it may have retailed for £700 ish but this is a guess estimated from this ribble page where the new ones can be purchased

my prob is when i compare the components on the 2nd hand ribble with the new ribbles, they have a different set of components, maybe imp[roved.

A second hand Ribble with Sora I would probably pay £200 to £300 for if in decent condition bearing in mind you can get a decent new Triban from Decathlon for not a lot more.

ones on ebay for 400 at the mo and thats overpriced i think, you can buy sora brand new for 200

to describe a little more exactly where my thinking is at the moment, what would your advice be if i just saved more and went for something similar to this, considering audaxing is my training goal,

I would say the Ribble is better, but buying new you get a warranty etc. and you are guaranteed that it is immaculate. You might struggle to get the right size Triban though as it is being discontinued.

thats the one, red and black. your other link is unfortunately too small for me, which is one reason the ribble appealed because its 58inchs and im 6ft.

Shimano tourney is pretty naff (i think thats whats on the btwin) but every level of groupset changes gear its just gow smooth and fast it does it, if your after it for abit of fun who cares just go for one at the right price you like the look of

That Triban 5 is a good deal. You would probably need to keep an eye on the wheels which are a bit basic, but it would be a good starting point.

If your just after a road style bike take a look at viking bikes , for under 200 you can get a solid bike with bar shifters i had one as my first and tbh if i still had it id ride it you can pick them up as low as 120

if my goal is to enter audaxes in a year or two, after ive trained up? at present im at 30+ miles on my mtb 3 times per week. and ride the bike everywhere else, no buses or cars.
