I have known that a GA affects the bowels but never asked why/how.
Then, last week, after GA for my double cataract op' I asked when I could be collected and was told "after you've passed urine" (that was no problem  ).
That reminded me of my op' for bladder cancer which turned out to be bigger than expected and turned into an 81/2 hour op'...........I was seriously constipated after that.
So.......google to the rescue......
Bowel problems......its often the opiate pain killers that have the biggest affect and as I my case, assistance is needed
Re bladder probs....its more that the GA slows everything down and it needs a gentle prod.
Many will already know all this but thought I would share my findings (waffle)

When I had my ankle operation, they wouldn't let me out until I had passed water.

Aye, when I've been under theyve never released me until I've nibbled a couple pieces of toast and visited the gents.

Of course, being the handsome devil I am the nurses are fighting to be first jn with my toast ;)

True story. During the op on my shoulder I was just going under when the last words I heard the lady nurse say were, "he's got nice guns!"

I think a lot of painkillers constipated you. My doctor recommends cocodamol for the runs. She says things like imodium are really bad for you as they keep whatever toxin the body is trying to flush in you whereas cocodamol just slows everything a bit.

Less than quarter pint out over five days, then it seemed to not want to stop for two days. Over a three pints of plain water a day going in, nothing like it coming out.
