@paul.cannon, I'm assuming the number you've given is on the seat post. If that's the case what's the number on the bottom bracket?

Hello. No number(s) on either of the rear dropouts either. The only clue is a 3 speed sturmey archer hub, with numbers 56 4.
I appreciate that this may not be the original hub but I have gone over the bike thoroughly and can't find any other numbers.

What makes you think that's not the original hub ?

Nothing really. It was the hub on the bike when I bought it. I just thought that it's possible it's not the original hub.
Its a 3 speed changer so it looks like it's right.
Could the bike be the same age as the hub?

I wouldn't of thought there would be many bikes about with a 1954 hub. So it could be an original.
