Anyone? Anyone go rushing out when they hear one all full of concern or is your first reaction like mine, shuddup! 99% of the time, nothing's happened anyway, well 100% in all the cases I've personally witnessed.

A few doors down has just gone off, except I couldn't actually tell where it was, it's hard to pinpoint a lot of the time. It must have been some kind of fire thing as the fire brigade rolled up and bashed the back door in, switched the alarm off and then went, so I imagine that's a nice bill they've got now to sort that out.

I don't know why people bother or is that just me and you lot are all good samaritans who run out armed with cricket bat and mobile

Went out a few nights ago at 2 in the morning- there were four of us round their house in a few minutes so we checked the house together as the people were on holiday... Alarms going off are rare so it's no problem. We're keyholders for each other too... and they look after the cat when we are away.

I guess that's slightly different, having in place an arrangment to give a fark, most people don't though.

Probably more of a deterrent.

There's a public building opposite my house, and the alarm goes off fairly regularly at weekends, when nobody is in the building. Once I phoned the non-emergency police number, in case there WAS a burglary in progress... the poliss were more interested in taking me through a series of questions with regard to whether or not it was causing me a nuisance, and how I might deal with such, than actually getting down there to stop the burgulator... so I don't bother any more, when it goes off...

We have an alarm after getting burgled 3 times. Never been burgled since so we've either been lucky, the incidence of burglary has dropped, the box puts them off.
You'd have to be pretty ballsy burglar to carry on rifling through the drawers with an alarm going off.

I had just moved into our new house and made a mistake dis-arming the house alarm. It took me a few mins to work it out and in that time a neighbour was banging on the front door. I was quite pleased - so yes, if you have the right neighbours it does make a difference.
