I would look for a used one of better quality. That way if you get fed up with it there will still be some value.

A CS-1000 really is a good way to go.

Were I into turbos I'd buy it, in fact I have enough bits lying around to knock together a basic turbo bike so I might anyway. For all the hi-tech ones available you really only need something to keep your legs spinning when you can't get out, unless you are into serious competition and need all the power readouts and such.

Worth a punt.

I was looking at one of those for my wife. Tbh, it might be a bit noisier than a fluid one, but if that's not a problem it'd be a good buy methinks.

Thanks
I am going to re-post this on the training/nutrition section as it may be more appropriate. So if anyone is interested it will be there.

It looks like the cheap ebay one i have.
very noisy but works i guess..but i dont use it as its boring and gives a poor riding a bike sensation..

they tend to just take up space after a week or 2

I had two turbo trainers over about a twenty year period, used to train in winter twice a week most weeks with a heart monitor, I used to do the spring reliability trials and train to try to hit a peak around the time of the trials, when the second turbo wore out I stopped training, I had reached the point where the little bit of extra fitness I was getting wasn't worth the effort I had to put in to get it, and by then the power meters were coming in and for the riding I do I couldn't justify the outlay on one.

It might work with a nutted axle, you'd need to check the diameter of the recesses in the two clamps against the size of the nut.

I've got a Tacx fan trainer - have only used it a few times and although it's beneficial, especially with a HRM, it's boring so only gets used in extreme weather.
