How much does it cost to Oldham?
No disc brakes but the Mares AX from Focus is a savage deal.

So what is there?

On-One Pompetamine Versa seems to tick all the boxes, but there must be some competition.

For commuting, long rides, touring, plodding, all-year round.

I like the Pomp, but I like the Surly Cross Check more. No discs and £875 but not a deal breaker - the quality and design of the frame is outstanding.

There's also the Croix De Fer if you want a Gen but not an eight speed.

Here for rides.

I'm put off by the frame on that. It's the same that was on a Claud Butler hybrid I had 8 years ago, and was just ok.

Edit- I've just checked the spec and I was wrong.

not sure what your fessing to being wrong abut ;)

the spec was drop bars, disc brakes, for commuting, long rides, touring, plodding, all-year round for £800.

Narry a word about a fancy dan frame

Not seen (m)any on the thread that actually meet the spec....

fwiw I've got the old one, with the ali frame. It has drop bars, disc brakes, and I use it for for commuting, long rides, touring, audax, FNRttC, plodding, shopping all-year round, and roughstuff riding. It took the south downs way in its mudguard rattling stride and came back for more. It is currently sitting on/in a turbo trainer beckoning me to go and get all sweaty.

I can only think the reynolds steel framed version is an improvement.
