We are about to sell the Specialized Allez road bike on the profile pic which was a gift to my son 5+ years ago but cannot find the model anywhere. The paint work is really unusual with white striping. An extensive internet search hasn't come up with any Allez which match this one. There are no model codes on the bike. Can anyone uncover the mystery? It is a special edition? Thanks

That looks like a very old model, at least 10, maybe even 20 years old, just going on the shape of the fork and frame. This looks to be of a similar vintage

Could you post a proper full size pic side on - even on a large screen, can't really see the avatar picture clearly

The model is the Allez. Made by Specialised.
At first glance it does look like an old one.
A few more detailed photos would help.

It looks pretty much the same frame as my DIY singlespeed Specialized Allez (only with a different paint job), so I reckon that it could be a...

Here's a better picture of the bike, it's 2x8 speed. It could well be 10 years old but almost certainly not 20 years old as some have suggested. I have a feeling the previous owner told me this was an elite but not entirely sure if this is true... As mentioned above, I have not seen any other versions of this bike with a similar paintwork on the frame which is why we wondered if it was some sort of limited edition.

Yes definitely a 2003 base model. Anything other than base model and it would say next to the Allez decal eg. Sport, elite or comp.
The shifters don’t look to be original, looks in great condition for a 17 year old, nice bike.

Man, I'm not a massive fan of Specialized but dammit do they make great looking frames!

It looks so good for a 2003 model.

In many ways these type of bikes are the best to buy, simple eight speed, easy to source, cheap replacement components and great price. The only problem is finding them in good condition. It’s similar to my 2007 Trek SL.
Interesting to compare to a modern budget road bike. I recently had a look at the Triban 520 in my local Decathlon and apart from the increase in gear number there’s very little difference, except for the heavier weight compared to my Trek.

The Allez is a very popular model in the States. started out in the 80's or 90's with a full sized frame and downtube shifters. Always a nice basic road bike. Paint jobs varied by year. This appears to be a 2003 model.
