Actually no, why the feck should he. IMO you stick with stuff like this when you are more or less forced to, such as work, or where there's a degree of compromise needed, e.g. going out in a group with a few people you might not know/like because you want to be there to support/enjoy a smaller part of the larger group's company. In free time where the above doesn't count then absolutely not.

There's a club like this near me. Thing is now the fast group is too slow for me:evil:

This is sense.
That is all:okay:

Let's have some perspective on this. A rider got brought down due to a leader error in not getting the group around an obstacle in the road. Despite not being at fault the op received a grumble from the guy who went down. After that he felt a bit unwanted and ignored.

We're people talking to him before and after? If yes then it doesn't mean he is being cold shouldered, I have done plenty of rides where it might be quite chatty early but not later as the pace builds and riders tire. If they were not chatty anyway then it is largely human nature where they will tend to talk to those they know. Often in my rides if we see a new face it will be left to just one or two of us to chat to them and try and make them welcome. Doesn't mean everyone is being deliberately rude.

It could well be that due to the incident the op was thereafter less focuses on the ride and more on how he perceived he was being treated. Does not seem over likely from my experience that collectively a group of individuals will all decide to reject someone in this way. Just as likely they were giving him space as they knew he may be feeling bad about the whole thing.

I would certainly go back for another ride. They might be being idiots about it but not enough evidence yet that they are. So for the moment Rule #5.

Maybe there's a bit of a pecking order in the group? I'd keep at the back for a few rides till you're accepted as a friend by the others,

If you read his original post you would have seen that he has been riding with the group for a few years. So how long should it be until he's 'accepted' as a friend?

Unless they've been properly trained to safely ride in a group on the road (Yes, such training is available) then I don't ride with more than 3 others, for the reasons the OP so graphically describes.

If you haven't ridden regularly with this particular group then I'd chalk it down to a one off and try it again to give them the benefit of the doubt. When I used to ride with my local club I found it was the guys who thought they were fast were that PITA's, the properly quick riders (and there was/are a few) were an absolute pleasure to ride with.

I prefer to stick to our Dev rides (middle group) as a leisurely 40-50 miler with good company does me. Nothing wrong with the fast lads but they are faster, ride more regularly and go further than I can be bothered to.

I'm now a ride leader of the Development rides and pushing for an official Dev ride each week because at the minute it's fortnightly

Why doesn't the OP speak go the club and its members and get a mid group going with a set time, distance and average pace?

I never ride with groups. Never have and never will. Instead I ride with family and friends. Much better as I can ride where I want, when I want and how I want! Without having to stop at pubs which they call group social time only to explain drinking is Haram!

So if you never had how come you know about them, I have done thousands of group rides and never once stopped at a pub.
