he should never have left the missus behind in order to try and inflate his ego.
Had I been in that position my gf would probably have encouraged me to go for it. Mine dew, I wouldn't have lost (or ever heard the end of it if I had)

You did exactly the right thing, btw

So after all that.. abandoning his poor wife, making a complete fool of himself and you drop him like a bag of spuds..

Good good!

Should of waited for him to come up next to you then say, "got much left?" before powering off.
Another good one that i did on a club ride is go along side another rider, who wanted to beat me up a hill, it by the side of him asking if he was going to make it up, while keep half wheeling him, then just power off ahead:laugh:

Fond memories of being young and fit - I'd have let him get even closer before taking off! Good one.

Who says I'm young and fit?

Must admit, I was honking a bit myself at the end, so not quite the recovery zone ride I was after, but well worth it.

I don't care what anyone here says, that was petty, tiny-minded, arrogant, vindictive, completely unnecessary and, frankly childish.

Have you been reading my CV? ;)

In fairness, given the look of absolute red-faced determination on his face I thought he could probably do with a bit of a boost, so I then gradually slowed down again ..... until he'd got to within 5 metres and then shot off.

I like your style. Hopefully you hadn't given anything away by looking behind. I wouldn't have shot off myself, I'd have just increased my speed imperceptibly...

What was his wife like? She fit? I think you must at least deserve her instead as victor!

Must assume she wasn't "all dat". Surely if she was, Rhys would have dropped back and let her pass... so he could admire the view  (and wind up the BF at the same time)!

Yep - Swampdonkey.

Somewhat reminds me of an embarrasing moment a year or so ago.

I'm recovering from a knee op so just started back on the bike when I get passed by a rather fit female ... she jumps the lights, I don't, but then each time she appears to be looking back and slowing down enough for me to catch up.

This goes on for a while, and at one point at the start of a hill climb she looks round and slaps her arse provocatively then starts to speed up.

Now, I'm a married man, but always up for a bit of harmless flirtation, I did momentarily think that I should be a bit wary of the knee (for all of about 0.000003 seconds) so I drop a gear and prime to put in a bit of a burst ....

.... when her boyfriend overtakes me!. He'd probably been just behind me most of the way, only my attention had been distracted elsewhere
