I have two electric hand blenders - on one the whisk works, on the othe the blender works. Should I hrow them both away and get a new one on which both blender and whisk works? Isn't that wasteful?
No worries, Sara, you have the "nesting instinct" perfectly natural imo
Nevertheless, I draw the line at stuff not working, obsolete I keep, fubar I get rid of, replace.

We used to live in a Victorian 3 story 3 up 2 down, when we down sized and moved in here I nearly caused a family rift and a divorce by insisting family members had a clear out and ditched what they didn't use, despite that the day after we moved I put about 50 boxes of stuff in one of our sheds.
Last summer the sheds were taken down and replaced by one large shed, I brought every thing into the house and insisted it was sorted and what wasn't wanted was got rid of, the new shed is 12x6 and almost half of it is filled with boxes of stuff that isn't needed. In the house most horizontal surfaces have stuff on them and the small box room is that full its a problem just getting in the door.

Quite right too. No point in giving the relatives and easy time of it after you go. I must start a collection of anvils.

When I moved to this flat, it was from a student house that I'd shared for three years. I'd accumulated a fair bit of stuff I didn't want anymore, and took several carrier bags into Oxfam. Behind the counter was a youngish chap, and an old lady. The chap said "Oh, that's a lot of stuff!" and I said "Well, that's what happens when you live somewhere for three years.".

The old lady said "That's nothing, I've been in my house for 28 years".

"Yeah", I said, "I guess you've got some stuff..."

"I have" she said, with a slightly malicious twinkle in her eye, "and it won't be me that has to clear it out!"

I imagined a slightly disliked son-in-law....

Ooohhhh, anvils, that would make a nice valuable collection! They are still worth more then their scrap metal value. I'd like an anvil.

Nah, if you want to upset the relatives then you need to have lots of small valueless objects carefully wrapped in newspaper, placed in boxes that are then parcel taped, then stacked, unmarked, in huge piles.
Drop a hint that that there might be a valuable Ming vase in there somewhere.
Also make sure you are living in an area that is really strict on recycling of waste and rubbish.

See that pile of boxes in what will be my living room? That's where the idea came from! Bleeding Dad!
It's part of what came out of the guest room I am working on.

Alright, but please don't store them upstairs with the cast iron baths, or you'll need another collection: of Acrow props. Oh jesus, what have I said....

We've only touched the surface of looking through that stuff. It starts off like a game, but there's only so many times you can say "Oh, this one is novelty teapots and leatherette camera cases" before the fun starts to wear off...

Oh no, not bike bits. Just general tat collected over the years. Christmas wrapping paper I have much of, but I still seem to have more every year.

We have a "bike bits" box in the garage. I don't even know what most of it is!

You know those great big jars you see in sweet shops full of lemon bon bons and other luscious things? Well, a friend of mine has one of these full to the brim with the screw tops from Woods valves.

When did you, I, or anyone last see a bike with Woods valves? Yet he can't bring himself to chuck them away.
Anyone know anyone who wants thousands and thousands of the screw tops from Woods valves??
