I have two electric hand blenders - on one the whisk works, on the othe the blender works. Should I hrow them both away and get a new one on which both blender and whisk works? Isn't that wasteful?

Phht, don't be silly. If you ever wanted to make a version of Edward Scissor hands that would be useful for baking then you'd already have half the bits you'd need surely? In fact why haven't you already created a robotic Mary Berry? Perhaps your problem is laziness not hoarding? I suggest the only logical course of action to take is to build an unweildy army of the night using all the bits and bobs you've hoarded, each one could have a special power related to the hoarded bobbin you've used. I'd personally be terrified of 'Broken Mug Man'.

However, as a word of warning, if in your lab / the kitchen late one night you stand back to admire a newly 'born' poo bag man then you may have cross a line and sinned against nature.

If Sara_H is responsible for the creation of Jeremy Kyle, and nobody can show me any evidence that proves she isn't responsible then I can only assume she used a discarded copy of the Daily Mail from the bottom of a poo bag eating cat's litter tray in place of his brain. I'm not accusing Sara_H of buying the Daily Mail of course, I assume 'Mr. Short Bits Of String Tied In The Middle' used his only special power to harf-inch a stack of newspapers from someone else's recycling pile.

I have more then one room in the house that looks like this.
indiana-jones-raiders-warehouse.jpg

When it is full excavate a cellar.
And more then one room in the basement that is likewise.

Although I hoard I blame my folks, two 7.5 ton truck loads moved up in addition to their day to day stuff and furniture. Take their stuff out of the equation and there would be just enough room for Arch's stuff when she moves in!

I keep thinking about having a bit of a cull... but the reason i have sh!t loads of bit and bobs is because i want each and every one of them. my tat includes 25 soda syphons, 7 mincers, about 500 cassettes and 1500 LPs and about 6 foot of magazines. I've never used a soda syphon for squirting soda, or minced meat with a mincer. I cant remember the last time I played a cassette, LP or read a magazine. My kitchen looks more like a garage with a sink, fridge and cooker in it... plus the 'new' sink which i may or may not get round to fitting, and the 'old' fridge freezer which i realy should shift... I replaced it in 2009!!!

If you've not used it in the last 6 months, off to the charity shop with it. unless it is tat, then bin it. It's the only way to live. you know it make sense:thumbsup:
What about the Christmas decorations .... sledges etc ... you need to keep things more than 6 months to be sure you don't need it:whistle:

I'm somewhat of a hoarder, taking after my mum with a mentality of keeping things just incase and mending things. Even with my bike, I've kept all my old innertubes, couple of sets of tyres, innertubes, old saddles, old lights, even my old chain and cassette. The old tubes are great for padding out fittings and I did have to switch back a saddle after a new one got a crease in it, the chain makes a nice ghetto chainwhip.

I'm just as bad with computers, I've got several of spare parts, cables, modems, keyboards, mice, adapters, pci cards and all the bits that have failed on me - I don't really know why I've kept them. I've also kept all my data since the great hard disk failure of '99. :addict:

I keep the rest of my things in check, but I really struggle with presents, especially silly novelty things that I don't want to throw away but I haven't used in years/ever. I've got a box of 1985 encyclopedias my granddad bought me, which are getting increasingly less useful, but I'd feel mean getting rid of them.

I'm a hoarder and proud of it^_^

Books I never read, records I never listen to, video tapes I never watch, spare parts for cars I no longer own, old computers and hard disks, cameras galore, more bikes than I have time to ride, assorted bits and pieces for hobbies I never "got into," an old B&W portable TV, thousands of photos and negatives I never look at, numerous car posters, thousands of old car magazines, radios, turn-tables and tape decks I always intend to repair.

I'm sure it will all come in useful one day.

At least if I ever end up being housebound, I will have loads of reading material....

Buy the new blender - I'm going and mine isn't even broken yet (though it occasionally lets out a seep of rusty water which implies it doom is impending).

But my next hoarding excuse has appeared - my eldest is about to go to Uni next year (if a little more effort is put into the studies), and I've noticed myself keeping somethings that will be "needed" then!!! (Mugs, cutlery, towels etc).

Computer part and cable hoarding is my OH's thing. I was banned from buying a new laptop for a while as we had deveral broken ones that he thought he could resucitate - I finally bought a new one last week.
I'm terrible at gifts - no matter how cheap and crap - it seems ungrateful, consequently I have loads of unopened toiletry sets all over the place (which I can't use anyway as I've got really sensitive skin).

And don't get me started on gift bags and boxes. Now, when my family open a present from me they hand me the wrapping streight back. I've got gift bags that are years old.

I must admit I have quite a collection of tyres that have passed my tolerance level but recently when Andrew_C was wanting some (sorry you were too far away), I did wonder if there were somewhere local to me that would want tyres that were beginning to get punctures but still had some life left in them.

Sara I am beginning to wonder if we are twins separated at birth ... I too have gift bags that I reuse, and unwanted presents sitting around that I assume no one else would want!!! (One I recieved at Christmas was one of those mugs shaped like a camera lens - too big, looks horrible to clean or hold - who would want it!!!).

I'm also a child of the 70's. My mother was a hoarder so that's probably the reason why I am not.
My mother always throws things away that she doesn't immediately need... often buying replacements as a result a few months later. [Especially clothes that don't fit according to how much her weight see-saws at the time...]. The waste infuriated me in my teens which is why I keep things far longer than I should...including the packaging/ boxes for things that have a warranty in case they need to go back... all kept in the loft. It has been useful a few times. Should have a clear-out.... one day.
