I'm normally courteous and wave a thanks if a drivers driven well or been kind, I recon it makes my rides more pleasant. I think if you are commuting over the same route at the same time for weeks, months or years the regular drivers get to know you and the way you ride, and if you are courteous and ride well a lot of them will see that and treat you the same.
