Am I the only one to let the weather get the better of me?

After a few rides in the very early part of the new year where I got soaked, frozen and generally blown about all over the place I lost all interest in cycling in bad weather. I persevered throughout previous winters, but this year I just don’t feel like getting frozen and soaked anymore in spite of the fact that my weight is on the way upwards

Nah.

I run in this weather, running in foul weather doesn't seem anywhere near as bad.

Not as diligent as I should be - but have done a few. Enjoyed a cold, wet and windy ride yesterday as an example. Also done a load of turbo this year.

Looking forward to better weather though :sun:

I'm not generally put off by bad weather and oddly I really enjoy riding in the rain and snow. But I have stopped wearing shorts year round. I finally decided that looking after my knees in freezing weather was more important than looking hard!

Maybe you just need to invest in the right gear - waterproofs/ thermals etc?

After struggling on and getting drowned/frozen I decided to wait for better weather. I don't commute so I just ride for pleasure. Riding in horrendous conditions is not pleasurable and was actually damping down (no pun intended) my enthusiasm for cycling. I am however hitting the gym quite hard in an effort to shed the pounds which should mean I can hit the ground running this year and get some decent distances in

I'll go out provided it's not actually raining/snowing/etc. as I'm getting ready.
There's something about it starting to rain/snow once your out even if you've only done a couple of hundred meters that makes me continue; but, getting ready knowing that I'm going to step out into rain that stops me getting ready.

I made a decision late last year that, unless it is snowing, I will man up and not let the winter get in the way this year! So far, so good!

I've been forcing myself to go out in the wet and ice. Once out in it I feel okay but it's getting the motivation to get out there. I've been drawing the line with the gales though.

I'm going out tonight at about 11.00pm, just hoping the wind and snow doesn't start for then!

As long as I breathe, I attack.
If i do not commute i do not really get much chance to any training so unless the road are dicey i will just get on with it but i will not take unnecessary risks, missed 2 weeks last month with the weather as i would rather put on a few pounds rather than losing £ with time off work.

Rain, mixed with bitter cold strong winds is an evil mix. So, a few days (well, lots really) less riding undertaken so far this year compared to last.

Bad weather is just an excuse to buy more cycling kit :hyper:

Never the wrong weather, just the wrong clothes.

The only conditions I won't go out in are if the roads are likely to be icy. That said, I do find that i can't go as fast when the temperature drops to near freezing, my body just doesn't seem to work quite as well at that temperature.

I never usually let weather stop me but this past month or so has been so wet, windy and miserable that I have let my enthusiasm wean somewhat. I've only cycled about 110 miles so far this year, I normally do that in a week.
