Am I the only one to let the weather get the better of me?

No, it wasn't! They boys though were very helpful. One gave me his fleece, the other one his gloves, fixed my bike and they did whatever they could to protect me from the wind all the way back. Still it was a torture, but I am eternally grateful! I hope I will have the chance to return the favour one day!

Well, yours sound one of those that you don't actually feel like laughing (unlike mine, according to eye witnesses ). More like calling 999!! It also sounds like messing up your shoulder tendons was a lucky escape tbh! As for walking 8 miles after that kind of a fall doesn't sound very good either! No "rescue team"? Are you using recessed cleats at least?
Nice at least to have been in company for your watery adventure. A 17 mile ride like that would be no fun at all. I hope you had a good hot mug of coffee when you got back!

I was all alone at a little after 5am (I usually go out around 4:30 or so) and calling home at that hour for a pick up mightn't have made me terribly popular. I figured I made my bed, so to speak, and so had to deal with it. At least I ride on flat pedals so I was in comfortable shoes for the walk. I was just grateful that none of my camera gear was smashed - I do a fair bit of photography for my blog and usually carry some pretty decent gear. THankfully it is fine.

I know they are going to pick on me again, about my priorities.. but since you mention the cameras, I feel I am allowed to ask: "how's the bike?" Apart from the saddle and the dereuiller* that is..

(come on guys!! he has a gorgeous bike! it would be criminal not to ask!!)

*or derailleur even..

Thanks! Happily enough the frame never got a scratch - just the saddle and the twisted derailleur. I was really, really lucky.

Nah.
I run in this weather, running in foul weather doesn't seem anywhere near as bad.
Me too!!
There was 5" of snow for the run home the other week (Friday 25th), saw 4 cars moving in 4 & 1/2 miles! (& a 2 mile stretch of road with no tyre marks at all!!)
Mindst you the following day saw torrential rain, with gutters/drains overflowing

But then again.. this race was wet!!!

Bad weather is just an excuse to buy more cycling kit :hyper:

Never the wrong weather, just the wrong clothes.

The only conditions I won't go out in are if the roads are likely to be icy. That said, I do find that i can't go as fast when the temperature drops to near freezing, my body just doesn't seem to work quite as well at that temperature.
So wrong kit as well
Sometimes as you say no amount of right clothes will stop you falling off on ice , studded tyres are the way to go although for the few weeks a year i might need them its hard to justify and i do not have the clearances to run them .

I built up a bike last autumn (on a dolan proffisio frame) with mudguard eyelets just for winter riding and since christmas have managed to do nearly 400k, but I haver to say yesterdays jaunt was 50ks worth of purgatory, freezing wind, sleet, rain and a numb forehead, no fun at all. Still won't stop me going out again this weekend though!!

I loved Northern Cyprus and thought it a brilliant place and the people are great. Such a shame politics still divides the island and hopefully one day they'll sort it out.

I cycle to work in all weather, it's not far, and I have to get there whether I want to or not.
If I choose to go for a ride I want it to be fun, and if I look at the weather and think " that doesn't look like fun" I don't go out!
