Am I the only one to let the weather get the better of me?

Pretty much the same for me as OP, perilously little mileage done since Christmas Eve.
TBH, i couldnt care less at the moment, it bugs me, but at the end of the day, ive had three weeks of chest infection and coughing, one emergency call out for pains in my chest, two visits to the docs (blood tests tomorrow), one bout of hives and now ive got a chest cold again
I'm cream crackered ...

Not commuting anymore was the death knell for me, it gave me solid base mileage day after day, all weathers. Without that, you easily lose the desire to get out there after a week or so off the bike, let alone more. Roll on the spring.

I'll go out provided it's not actually raining/snowing/etc. as I'm getting ready.
There's something about it starting to rain/snow once your out even if you've only done a couple of hundred meters that makes me continue; but, getting ready knowing that I'm going to step out into rain that stops me getting ready.

The same totally. Even if there is some mammalian whore of a rain-fest on its way, but it is isn't dribbling at the point I leave, that's fine. A few miles down the way and it doesn't matter so much...:hyper:.

I bought myself an MTB to be able to get out and about even in crap weather (it's been used lots) and I also have a turbo with an older road bike to suit me if it's just too vile to even contemplate going out.

Poor weather for me, it has to be said, is rarely an issue in regard to me getting wet. That old saying, 'there is no such thing as the wrong weather, only the wrong clothing' rings true. BUT, do I want to have to brave the elements myself in person, as well as give the bike and drive-train some extra TLC when I can stay in and train just as hard on the turbo or get some fresh air on an MTB? That's the real issue for me on the road bike, not getting wet.

As for ice, well what's the point with skinny tyres? I mean really? Get a winter bike I hear some say (commuters are excluded from this angle), spend less of your good money on a winter set-up as you would on your summer's best (lol!) and still end up on your arse, breaking various bits and bobs, including your own bones. No ta.

I loved Northern Cyprus and thought it a brilliant place and the people are great. Such a shame politics still divides the island and hopefully one day they'll sort it out.

Agreed...

It's a shame ...it is a nice place to ride, although there are lots of unfinished building works etc..like nearly all med countries i have been too. But in the hills it's nice. Right now the green fields are turning yellow as the rape seed takes hold .

Don't worry, you are not alone ! Did quite a lot of riding up to Christmas in all this Kack and i had enough of it when i got home one night after having to re-route due to heavy flooding and not being able to get the key in the front door due to being so cold and wet ! It's pants and not fun at all

I've missed six commutes this year due to weather, and I've been restricted to three training rides. I don't cycle when there's a big risk of ice. People say 'man up' but sharing slippy surfaces with buses and lorries isn't my idea of fun!

If you are travelling much in that part of the world I would advise you to judge your audiences carefully before you use the word 'petty' to characterise their historical tiffs and prejudices.

Ofcourse they are! They are taking you money, what did you think they would do? Slap you?
Well, in fairness the Turks I've met here in the UK are same as everybody else, some ok, some irritating.
The displaced turkish-cypriot (lots in London) have lost plenty too. We cannot blame today's generation for the politics of 1974.
Still, I would not go to Northern Cyprus when lots of my friends still pine for their lost homes.
Btw, they took my money in Cairo while scowling disapprovingly

...everyone is entitled to their predjudices...I dont really care one little bit what mmf thinks about Turkish people, all I was doing was contributing a comment to the thread, regarding changing the weather.
