Am I the only one to let the weather get the better of me?

I don't have to ride to work, and it's a 44 mile round trip. Have ridden on the weekends, but not nearly enough.
Waiting for spring to come, but made my mind up .... Will buy some rollers in the summer sales

My hybrid bike is newly setup with Marathon winter spiked tyres.
I did 50 road miles yesterday in the brilliantly forecasted minor snow flurries but chickened out on what would have been, my first ever spiked ice ride.

Warmer air is creeping across so methinks that might have been my only opportunity for winter 2012.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Chickening out tonight, couple of inches thats turning to slush which is liable to freeze over night , not weather for commuting on country lanes in the dark methinks.

snap & don't blame you but I still feel like I wimped out! the idea of cycling in slush on country lanes as it was going dark combined with hitting 'rush hour' in a town did not appeal for evening college. Hopefully tomorrow will be better - also meant to be at college. think it gets much warmer overnight so it will just be wet for the 9:30am commute in the morning

I hopefully will have been in bed about 3 hours by then, should be coming home at about 5am .

My standard XRs are OK on slush.

Obviously these tyres are about to be put on ice for the rest of the year.
Purchase of a lifetime I'm sure.

Not if you live in Scotland! :cold:

Sell the cars and motorbikes! Give yourself no choice and its surprising how quickly you don't notice the weather.

As said though, the right kit is key.

My problem is when it's hovering around 4 degrees.. Base layer + winter jersey + wind shell are too much, but loose one and its slightly too little!

No, actually a liffa baselayer, toped with a merino baselayer, toped with a jersey, toped with a thermal windproof jacket, toped with a waterproof shell (if raining), it's not even close to enough!
Add glove liners and thrermal gloves, 2 buffs, thermal tights, under-shorts, overshoes, thermal socks and that's me covered for up to 1-2 degrees.
Still freezing, mind you, but coping.. :cold:

Lucky I don't feel the cold. Around zero I'm fine with a t-shirt, long sleeved top and a high-viz gilet. I always start off with some thin gloves but end up taking them off after 20 minutes, I don't know why I bother with them to be honest.
So no problem with temperatures, but not keen on high winds. Many of the passes around here are 1,500ft+ so up there it can be almost impossible on a really windy day
I keep focussed on a "winter miles, summer smiles" strategy and it seems to be working. Faster and fitter now than I was in the Autumn
I don't really like bad weather, but I don't dislike it as much as most so I'm happy to man up when it's a bit dodgy

1-2 degrees , thats mild ^_^
I do not mind the cold so much , its the wet and the cold .Took the car last night and i am glad i did as i would have had to dodge a couple of inches of slush that has now turned to floods.

Ofcourse it's mild! That's why I go out wearing my 'light' kit..
Otherwise I would be wearing a fleece, leg warmers and a beanie as well!
