I bought myself a really expensive bike for my 60th birthday after riding it at a Cyclist Magazine track day and being blown away by it. I only ride it in dry weather when there's no chance of salt on the roads but when I do it gives me huge pleasure because it's so much lighter and stiffer than my endurance and winter bike and just seems to repay your efforts much more, not only in the way it climbs but the way it descends as well. I say go for it, get yourself a hooligan bike, you will ride more and enjoy it more as well.

Go for it! Get what you fancy and stuff anyone who thinks or says otherwise.

I went for 45mm mid/deep section rims for everyday riding. They catch the wind, but only slightly, and are still sexy looking.

I find my 40 and 50mm rims fine in the wind . Not long ago i bought a 60mm front rim as thats about as big as you want to go with the wind . I bought that incase i need to replace the 90mm rim because of the weather .
Enjoy your money and let other people be grumpy about it
