I read that as

Amazing news - Islington police have stolen my bike!

Still good news.

Is it complete and undamaged?

Lovely, and happy for you!

Now lets hope the thieves did some repair work as on Aunty Charlotte's bikes, so she got one of the stolen ones back better than when it left her.

I read it the same as Cunobelin.

I must say I was disappointed. Normally I'd be pleased for you of course, but my expectations for this thread had been considerably raised by my misreading.

Me three - I was hoping to hear an exciting story of a plains clothes police officer flagging you down and commandeering your bicycle to then ride off and pull off some m4d sk1llz to catch an international terrorist or whatnot.

Good news, but remember if you have already had an insurance pay out then you will have to either return their money or surrender the bike to them as it now belongs to the insurance company!

Make that four - it's a funny old world! Good news for getting the bike back, though. They also found my scooter once when it got nicked, so they are doing some good!

Result!

Did they catch the scumbags?

Yep, they caught the b*st*rd. Basically he was being approached for some other offence and he threw the bike at a WPC who sustained bad injuries. I had to give a statement yesterday as he was denying the bike was stolen, and may have to attend court at some stage if he continues to plead not guilty. Apparently he is responsible for so much crime in the area, they want to throw the book at him.

Unfortunately that also means my bike is being held as evidence, so won't get it back for a while

One thing the officer said though was to tell everyone to take a note of their bike serial number, as they could return a lot more if people had this when reporting a bike stolen - it's what their database is based on. I must admit there was at least 100 bikes at Islington station waiting to be reunited with an owner - some brand new.

I have also cancelled my new bike order and am returning the funds to the insurance company to save my no claims.
