It's a bit more complicated than that...
I would tend to agree with you about Netflix. I don't watch it much and when I do, I struggle to find anything to my taste.
I have decided to stick to Netflix for now and cancel Amazon.

I'd wear the pink pants tomorrow if I were you.

Make up a new email address and take out a new trial period?

Don't know about Amazon, but if you use Netflix on a device and then start a new account, you will not qualify for the free trial period. My daughter had an account on which I had a profile. When she closed her account and I opened my own, I was charged for the first month despite their advertisement that the first month was free. I queried this with them and was advised that they had identified my device as having been used to access Netflix before. So, by all means use a new email address to open a new account, but to get another free trial period you might also have to buy a new TV or computer.

They probably do, I am not sure if there is a way round that, but I wouldn't want to evade payment by illegitimate means anyway, and even if I did, the cost of the monthly fee is hardly worth the hassle.

I choose to pay for Amazon Prime monthly, which is £7.99. The annual fee is £79.99 which works out slightly less at £6.67 per month. Occasionally they offer a discounted annual fee of £59 for a limited period. I choose the slightly dearer monthly option because I can drop my membership for a month or more if I don't foresee myself making use of it, then just jump back on board when I want.
I've just started a month's free trial of Amazon Prime, and for us, what's on offer for streaming isn't fantastic compared with Netflix. The choice of films is poorer.

After a couple of days, the only thing I have in my list is the Man in the High Castle.

But as it's "free", I'm not going to ask for a refund.
A few series we've enjoyed:

Hap and Leonard - decent buddy stuff, gruesome in places
Bosch - good detective stuff
Goliath - best thing on there recently, first rate
Hand of God - 'morally deficient judge who'll stop at nothing' drama
The Red Road - really enjoyed this, shouldn't have been cancelled
Patriot - pilot only, tragedy, it's wacky fun, brilliant!
Banshee - really good series, brutal, tons of shagging too

There's probs others but enough to keep us viewing, the only TV we watch is an episode a night.

I've never watch Prime but might get one of those firesticks to do so. I'll sign up with Netflix once they allow offline viewing.

Arrow is escapist fun, if you've not already seen it. Transparent's first series was good (not caught up with the second). I really enjoyed Constantine (it only got one season, sadly), Parks and Rec is a great comedy, I liked both seasons of Outlander, Catastrophe, Sleepy Hollow... there's plenty of stuff there, but like anything, it may be that Netflix has more things you like. (Or you could just get ticked off my Amazon's interface, which I'm still not keen on).

Bosch is very good, watching it at the moment. I also watched most of the X-Files on Prime, every episode is still there, but not the film (unless you pay for them). Watched the first 2 seasons of Ray Donovan (okay), but not going further because you have to pay for seasons 3 and 4.
