Does anyone on the forum have Amazon TV box for firestick and use an AirPlay app to stream music or video onto the tv?

My daughter is getting an iPad mini off her grand parents for Xmas and she has mentioned she would like Netflix or the likes for her room. I have Apple TV downstairs and use it to AirPlay music throw our cinema speaker system and she likes the idea

Cheers, Kev

Amazon Fire TV for me.

We have a Fire TV stick, theres a Netflix app for it so would think you could go that route with the app on both the iPad and fire TV if you decide on Netflix with the same account - would check though as I don't use Netflix.
The Amazon stuff works very well too. Easy to start watching a movie on the TV and switch to the amazon web site on the laptop (dunno about the ipad) at the same point in the movie when SWMBO decides she doesn't like my viewing choice.

Isn't AirPlay an Apple technology? I'm not aware of AirPlay working with any TV box except Apple TV. I know there are third-party apps for AirPlay on various platforms but I'm always wary that Apple could change something and break unofficially supported apps and boxes.

NB I'm a bit out of the loop with TV boxes since going Android and Chromecast.

Apple TV has Netflix app built in if your a subscriber already. AirPlay is an Apple technology but other apps use it as in BBC iPlayer

There are a few posts on t'internet about apps for the Amazon stick which receive AirPlay but I'm now in a different dilemma. Sky have offered multiroom for £5.99 per month with free equipment and installation. This would give her movies, music, cartoons, everything.

The problem, she is 9. How many 9 year olds have Sky with every channel Sky offer in their bedroom?

Let her watch Netflix on the iPad?

It's what my kids do, they're not interested in the main TV much anymore.

In the interests of online safety though, I don't allow them to use their iPads in the bedroom.

Mine neither though eventually in their teens they had the ability via phones to watch YouTube, then late teens their own computer. I'm glad I only had to deliberate over not putting in a TV (easy choice), and when they could have a phone, it's getting earlier and earlier now.

It was a real luxury to have a TV in your room when I was a kid. There were only 4 channels. Back then we'd get up in the morning at 10 at night, half an hour before we went to bed. After school we'd have to work in a factory for 29 hours a day and pay for the privilege. Kids today don't even know they're born.
