That looks very much like them trying to finesse the final distance to be as close to the 18,000 miles / 29,000km target as possible.

The new planned route still goes through Alaejos, the antipodal point to (very near) Wellington Airport, so that's not changed. Their road distance to the start point from where they are now would be very close to 2,000km if they went quite directly, which most of the planned route does. They actually need nearly 2,200km from where they are right now to reach the target, and that odd loop near Bordeaux is approximately 200km. (That's all conjecture. I've not seen anything anywhere to suggest any of it.)

Oh it's a bit of a car journey for me but I might look into it.

I did my longest ride of the year 113 miles today. These two would have another 70 miles to do with luggage and at a decent pace and be raring to go tomorrow.

Distance to finish says 1386km. I presume that is now wrong given what you have posted. Based on what she said yesterday on the video short; I would put their finish distance at ~ 29,500km. But maybe more tweaks to come.

I was going from 29,000 minus the 'Estimated distance' field on the tracker page. That seems to have dropped to a little under 1,900km at this moment, which is about right in terms of how far they are from their starting point. Where are you reading 'distance to finish'?

So it is.

Given that Google Maps gives 1,340km from Salamanca to Le Havre, and then about 300km from Portsmouth to Derby, or 1,640km total (and they're still south of Salamanca and finishing slightly north of Derby) that 1,386km DTF is looking 'questionable', notably since their route is less direct than the Google Maps, driving ones. Odd. Also good, in that they need 1,900km or so for the Guinness RTW criterion. That's making the possibly rash assumption that the distance travelled number on the tracker is correct, which it quite possibly isn't. I have a feeling it was couple of hundred kilometres out at Auckland, based on what Amy said at about that time.

I would think that Kyle and Amy would have a better idea of how far they have ridden and how far they have to go than a AI program.

I drove a 1,100kms round trip to see them on day 51 in central NSW Australia, south of West Wyalong. I live in western Sydney and I am a lapsed long distance cyclist (of some sort), Audax, etc., etc.
