ah mate (says he adopting the vernacular) New Zealand is the place for pies. There is nothing that doesn't get shoved into pie casing! I remember at school having a staggering array of pied delights, some I would doubt you'd even think of! Ever had a potato top pie? (meat with mashed potato), How about a macaroni cheese pie? There were fruit pies for dessert too, so the real hard core pie fans would have a potato top pie for mains and an apricot pie for dessert.
And the NZ Railways meat pie has entered the realms of national legend. I'd be willing to bet you could google it and probably find there is a web page dedicated to it! It's as synonymous with NZ (to a kiwi) as the All Blacks and steinlager.
