An LBS, A LBS, The LBS?

Location
Loch side.
The Bike Shop? A Bike Shop? LBS is like Drive Side and Non-Drive side. There are better phrases for these things.

so far as i know it's always 'a' unless before a vowel. so it's 'A spoon' but 'AN elephant'

so a LBS it is, although the LBS is another thing totally
Cheers Ed
Ah but L is pronouned ell which starts with a vowel. So, subject to concentration, I'll write it as I'd say it: an LBS.

I agree the "ruling" is if it sounds like it begins with a vowel not if it does or not, just like it's "an hour" as opposed to "a hour"

I guess it depends on whether 'LBS' is considered to exist in its own right as an acronym, or whether it's just a short-hand way of writing 'local bike shop'. Typing 'LBS' saves a few keystrokes, but saying 'El Bee Ess' doesn't save much breath.
