I chose the third option, because it says 'knob'.

live in a flat... banister is in a shared use landing/hallway, plus, my coat would be freezing left out there.... hook on the back of the door for me ... or lobbed on the chair which i lobs everything else on

It is so effing cold at the moment I'm wearing my jacket indoors and the heat has been on for about 3 hours !
My flat has no banister but my family home did and the banister was the preserve of my father's "Sports jacket". Consequently, since jackets are best hung on hangers, I see such behaviour as akin to unseemly marking of territory.

Those first two responses were only meant to be for teenagers!
Had your list of responses to your inane question been properly considered, they might have solicited better answers. Not only have you omitted to account for those who need to wear their jacket indoors but also those who know not what their butler does.

Same here, but there isn't even a banister* at the bottom of our stairs, it's an enclosed staircase with a wall. Mine either goes on a hook on the door, or is slung on the bed.

At NT's, it hangs on a hook, since he put the hooks up, and before that coats lived on the back of a chair.

*Although I think, strictly speaking, the OP means a Newel Post.
