Amazing how nobody will give a figure. I was earning £25K gross recently which I thought was a really good salary but it was costing me £2500 after tax in commuting costs. Irelevent now as I was made redundent this year and now get £59 contribution based jobseekers allowance for 1st 6 months then nothing as I have savings and other half works. I don't think the average wage is anywhere near £24K. A lot of people I know are on £15Kish and most jobs advertized are about that mark.
