anybody recommend one , when I use my phone for strava the battery life is rubbish and is there an android watch on the market that will connect to the play store thus letting me download strava onto it so I can just use that instead of starting it on phone and ending it recording on my wrist , I also have a garmin edge 200 but it's not Bluetooth and I don't have a laptop any more ,( I just use an iPad ) what's the options?
A Bluetooth garmin possibly ( if it syncs with an iPad?
Android watch ?
Or the cheapest laptop with a usb port ( for uploading data from my garmin onto)

Any device other than a specific GPS, will eat battery. Simple. Upload your 200 on a friend's device. Apple are buggers with letting stuff work. A cheap Windows Tablet will let you upload. The Linx 1010B is a cracking bit of kit.

The Garmin devices do a job..

There's a video on YouTube where the guy uploads to the site ( on an android phone ) straight from a garmin 500 using an otg cable ,, I've ordered the cable to see if it works with a 200

I use Strava on an Android (Sony Xperia Z3).
For cycling, I turn off data and wifi, and (belt and braces) turn airplane mode on.
Then I upload over home wifi when I get back.
I've been out for 8 and a half hours, and finished the ride with 45% battery still left :okay:

AFAIK android watches are not devices you can use like that, they are linked to a phone and get their gps from that, they won't work for Strava on their own.
The Garmin wearables have GPS built in and work the other way around, ie the watch does the tracking the uses the phone to upload your results, via Garmin connect app, then to a Garmin connect account. You can link (I do) it to Strava and it will transfer your run/ride to Strava.
Vivoactive or the new Vivoactive HR (built in heart rate monitoring) may suit you. For very in depth reviews dcrainmaker

Some devices like the 360 sport have GPS built in. I use ghostracer instead of strava because strava saps the watch battery quickly.

Ghostracer can be run standalone without a phone until you want to upload to strava. I can't test this setup though as my watch does not have the built in GPS.

Just using the ghostracer app for Android might help as it doesn't seem to sap the phone battery as much either. I used to have to charge the phone after a ride but now I don't.
