Andy Carroll's worth how much?

Sorry to clog the cafe with football threads, but it is deadline day!

Newcastle seem to have offered £35 million for Carroll and apparently rejected it.

That would be the 7th highest ever transfer - more than Barca paid for David Villa.

MM. Sit down. Chillax. Do not go there. Just don't think about it. Yonder lies madness.

I feel sorry for Hodgeson

Assuming Carroll is £35 million / Suarez is £23 million and Adam may be about £6 or 7 million

Torres is not going to be more than £50 million as that's the buy-out clause in his contract.

So Kenny was effectively given £15 million odd to spend in January.

Poor old Roy must be feeling a bit sick

Aargh... this annoys me so much. Okay, we could do a lot with 35 Million, but probably it will vanish into Mike Ashley's extensive back pocket and we will have lost the best striker we've produced in years, who could have been the kind of player you build a team of real quality around.

Newcastle will never be more than an also-ran team, if this continues. We haven't been a serious club for a few years now, and just when there was a hint of something better, it's gone.

It's true actually - I've not considered the Geordie viewpoint

Selling someone for that much, so late in the window - means, as you say, the money will disappear.

That leaves Ameobi / Nile Ranger - I can't think of any more strikers playing for Newcastle this year.

If Ashby's not careful you could go down - stranger things have happened.

Unless you pick someone up in the next few hours (I see from the BBC, Carlton Cole has just turned down a move to Newcastle) so Pardew's obviously panicking a bit and ringing round like mad.

Ameobi has only really developed recently because of his partnership with Carroll. Ranger has potential, and no doubt he will be great in our next Championship winning season as we heroically pull ourselves back to the Premiership once again... There's Lovenkrands - who is way past his best, although a very good sub... and that's about it. I'm not surprised Pardew is panicking.

Could be a long end to the season for the Toon. Wonder if Pardew will last to the end of the season once the results start to slip as I can't see many goals in the side now, as Fm posts - the money won't be buying anyone to replace him this window, and with Ashley unlikely during the summer either.

Surely he won't sack Pardew

After sacking the excellant, dignified, successful Houghton - who really held the club together single-handedly / brought on Carroll / got instant promotion (which is not easy) / beat the Mackems 5-1 / beat Aresnal away - if he sacked him after all that to bring in Alan Pardew, he's got to stick with him, surely.

Hopefully the points Houghton got for you will keep you up. I've never had tremendous faith in Alan Pardew - certainly not for a club as big as Newcastle.
