Sorry someone was hurt, cyclist or not but stop thinking you are the king of the road, when we all have to pay road tax then we will have equal rights, till then we hope that drivers will give us room, sometimes accidents happen, and some times things happen intentionally but no amount of bitching on here will change anything, get a life!

What else can be said than has already been said? Road tax is, as I am sure you are well aware, actually VED. VED is explicitly for motor vehicles using public roads and has been since around 1920.

As you are also well aware, cars constructed before 1973 are also exempt, do they have equal rights? What about vehicles with the least emissions? You know, those new tiny engined things which pay no tax either... do they have to hope that other drivers will treat them with respect? Of course not.

Maybe bitching on here won't change anything, and maybe stereotyping all BMW drivers to be dangerous is merely giving a dog a bad name, however suggesting that any particular group should put up and shut up with dangerous and illegal behaviour is absurd and you should be ashamed for suggesting it.

Cyclists, as you are again well aware being one yourself, rarely consider themselves kings of the road. They often drive too (paying into your mystical road tax pot) and when cycling simply expect the courtesy we should all endeavour to extend when using the higher powered vehicle.

What cyclists do consider themselves to be, are human beings, with a life, a job, a family. What they expect, after setting out on their journey, is the right to arrive at their destination.

And if you truly believe that cyclists, as a group of which you are a part, are somehow lesser than another and do not deserve that right because we do not choose to pay a part into some entirely voluntary tax, then you, Sir, can go **** yourself.

Referring to all BMW drivers as being less than caring in their attitude towards other road users is, on the face of it, of course stereotypical – but, along with “WVM” and “chav”, I was under the assumption that the vast majority of posters on this forum are grown up enough to understand that it is simply a generalisation used to help communicate and save time and that every time we did use one we shouldn’t have to then waste time qualifying their use with boring politically correct statements along the lines of “some of my best friends are…”

… just like I don’t start crying like a little girl when someone refers to a silly left wing, overly pc opinion being that of a “Guardian reader” even though I read The Guardian…

I don't really understand why a BMW had to chase me as I blew my horn at him for passing me without due care and attention the first time.Ironically when he passed me the second time he must have been concentrating.(I didn't have to cycle into the pavement that time) I still overtook him yet again. Then I lost him and that was without shouting any sort of abuse.(Thank christ as the cars occupants didn't look very nice)

So was it necessary to storm through heavy traffic like Bodie and Doyle to get nowhere and perhaps teach me a lesson?

I am hoping the prestige German car driver gets a humbling in this recession, the noughties have bred a particularly odious and self centered bunch, all the easy credit and other money about has led to this idea that the vaverage punter with a few quid is "Special" because of their choices, premium this and that, executive house, X5, yadda yadda yadda and this manifests itself in their attitude, like the woman in the Range Rover I saw today on a rare trip to a retail park, rather than walk the 50 yards from the nearest free space, straight into a disabled bay, looking unrepantant as she got out, I just looked at her and shook my head.

Truth is, I am not exactly on the breadline, nice house in a nice area, 2 cars, 3 kids at private school, but I am not special, I muck in, I treat people with respect, I dont misbehave (much) and do not feel the need to be a ****, apologies for my language but their are so many about, a premium SUV or BMW is a good way of identifying them, it might be a generalisation as I am sure plenty of nice people drive them but when pedaling around the place, you need to make these generalisations to stay out of bother.

It makes me laugh how they provide a trolley park in my local Tesco's car park because nobody can be bothered to wheel said trolley back to where all the other trolleys congregate.

As I want a small trolley and not a huge 4x4 trolley it usually ends up with me in the car park hunting said trolley down which said motorist dumped there in the first place.

I really think im off my trolley.

Sad to see another hit and run.

At least the police are taking it seriously but seems to me this is only because the fella is in such a bad way.

I'd like to add I was able to sit up but later the crush injury to my chest caused serious cause for concern.

I'd be interested to know how the police investigated this as for my accident there has been no follow up and I have been told by Met police traffic division the chances of it being investigated are slim as it was a hit and run.

Thoughts go out to the guy and his family.

I'm just sitting here laughing at how stupid you all are, thinking that I really care what the hell you think of me, that idiot who started the thread generalised about bmw drivers so I said the same about cyclist, as I am one.

I also mentioned about tax or as you like to be so correct VED, as any non cyclist what they think and many will say we should pay tax or VED etc but I mention that and I'm the idiot, lol you are all so stupid I feel so sorry for you :laugh:

Don't like my point of view, good thats why this is a free country where we are all allowed freedom of speech, unless you are all scared of someone having a different point of view, in which case what a load of saddos you all are, GET A LIFE

Pretend you’re not bovvered all you like… but have you noticed how very alone and isolated you are in your views?

Haven’t seen one person’s comments so universally slagged off for a long time on this forum…

And why bring up freedom of speech like anyone has tried to censor your words? I think you might be wildly clutching at straws there… but what would I know, being such an idiot and all that.

So to sum up, you think that cyclists don’t have as much right to be on the road as the drivers of motor vehicles because they don’t pay tax/ved and that because of this, cyclists should just simply “hope” that they don’t get run over. And that if anyone on a cycling forum disagrees with you they are a saddo who needs to get a life and stop being scared of your opinions or try and infringe your right to freedom of speech. Mmmmm – and I’m and idiot…..?

I seem to recall Noam Chomsky said something along the lines of:-

Goebbels was in favour of free speech for views he liked. So was Stalin. If you're in favour of free speech, then you're in favour of freedom of speech precisely for views you despise.

So in other words, yes, you are welcome to say that cyclists are second rate and should hope to survive their journeys. I'm not saying you are Stalin, or Goebbels - I am agreeing with you that you hold a view that I disagree with.

However, we are not at all "sad" for pointing out how utterly incorrect you are, for otherwise such views will continue to perpetuate. That is the flip side of the coin - you can say what you want, but you might not be right to do so.

I could walk down any High Street in the country and call everyone c**ts but it might not be a good idea. I very much doubt anyone would particularly care about the freedom of speech defence either.
