Chomsky’s definition of freedom of speech has, in my opinion, yet to be surpassed by any other philosopher to date.

I remember watching him talk about it in the film of manufacturing consent, a film that would probably change the world if everyone watched it.

He also puts his money where his mouth is so to speak – attending John Irving’s court case as a defence witness – if that’s not allowing someone to say something you despise (a Jew arguing the case that a Holocaust Denier should be heard) I don’t know what is.

Shooter, freedom of speech and having a different view point kind of go hand in hand don’t they? – it’s ironic that you cling to a freedom of speech defence for your views while simultaneously asserting that those who disagree with you are either scared of your opinions or saddo’s. That, coupled with your earlier comments, does rather make you out to be wrong on rather a grand scale…

Most importantly - I hope the cyclist in question pulls through.

Less importantly - Shooter, you are one of the most stupid and unpleasant people here. One or the other, you might get away with, but both... that's really not a good combination.

I'm just sitting here laughing at how stupid you all are, thinking that I really care what the hell you think of me, that idiot who started the thread generalised about bmw drivers so I said the same about cyclist, as I am one.

I also mentioned about tax or as you like to be so correct VED, as any non cyclist what they think and many will say we should pay tax or VED etc but I mention that and I'm the idiot, lol you are all so stupid I feel so sorry for you :laugh:

Don't like my point of view, good thats why this is a free country where we are all allowed freedom of speech, unless you are all scared of someone having a different point of view, in which case what a load of saddos you all are, GET A LIFE

Curious. He takes exception to TC's original proposition that BMW drivers are a bunch of twunts, and then sets out to prove it.

Hi Shooter!

Wow, you've stirred up a hornets' nest here and no mistake. Like you, I was convinced that a cyclist's place was in the gutter, seeing as he or she is essentially a scrounger of road space. Previously, my only interaction with my motorised superiors (its inconceivable that one day I might drive as well as ride a bike) was to apologise for denting their pride and joy after they'd left-hooked me, nudged me off the road or just plain rammed me.

So, I looked up this VED thing that they keep going on about. Why were they getting so worked up, its just a name after all - VED, SHMED - road tax is road tax. But guess what I found out? It turns out that road tax doesn't pay for roads! I was stunned I can tell you. On a hunch, I asked my local landlord about the duty on all that beer I drink. I was stunned to hear that the tax I pay on beer doesn't pay for the pub.

I turns out that loads of taxes are like that. Another example - the tax I paid on a recent flight wasn't used to rent "Maid in Manhatten", the in-flight film (take a tip from me - Jay Lo is great in it ).

What happens is that the road tax you pay is just put in a dirty great big pot and spent how they like, whether its on the NHS, bailing out banks or misguided and possibly illegal wars. Some of it goes on roads I grant you, but some also goes on that communist bike-to-work scheme ;).

This got me thinking. Between you and me Shooters, I'm pretty minted. I pay a lot of income tax. A lot. As income tax is the biggest personal contribution to 'the pot', it follows that I pay more for the roads than about 99% of the population. So, if your excellent logic holds, because I pay more, I should get first dibs on using it.

Which brings me to my point (at last!). If you're driving around mid-Hampshire and see a well built gentleman in his late thirties cycling along on an expensive steel or even more expensive titanium bike, then could you kindly get the f%^k out of my way old chap.

Heh heh, nice one Bollo!

And I'm sure Shooter always gives way to lorries when he is out and about in his BMW- they pay much more VED than he does.

I just can't believe the nerve! Bollo you are an outrage! I will be writing to the Daily Wail immediately.:smile:!

Titanium bikes are for scum! Gold is the future....

Steady on Bollo old chap – next thing you’ll be suggesting is that the tax raised on Benson & Hedges isn’t used to subsidise ash trays…
I’ve long thought the taxation system in this socialist nightmare of a country needs radical reform – I too shall be writing to the Daily Hail demanding that we immediately start taxing all foreigners who live abroad…

I contrast Bollo's rapier-like wit with my bludgeoning abuse, and I bow to the master. Hail Bollo!

And I hope the cyclist gets better too.

Too kind, too kind.

Unfortunately, gold does not give the lateral stiffness yet vertical compliance that I crave. I will specify that my next bike is constructed from human ignorance, the hardest and most inflexible material known to man.

Sorry Bollo, I beg to differ. The hardest and most inflexible material known to man is my Wife's stubborn streak. :girl:

Just don't diss his wheels Flying Monkey. I suggested Dura Aces not be the best for commuting and he ended up 'truly' hoping that I wouldn't suffer an early death!
