As long as I breathe, I attack.
75 % is commuting and maybe 2 club runs a month, with 2 young kids who demand constant attention there is no room for negotiation .
Recently i have even taken the bikes to the LBS for jobs i could really do myself but i would rather spend my limited spare time riding rather than playing with spanners.

3 to 4 hours a day (mon-fri) racks up the commuting mileage. I rarely ride out at weekends, only had 3 year to date. Get out there when the weather is poor, you'll soon get used to it. I forget its raining after about ten miles as it's normal state in my mind, I mostly notice it when it stops.

If you are like most people then you will likely spend hours a week watching TV, messing about on the internet and doing other stuff that you are only doing by default rather than making an active choice to do.

I'm not saying give up TV or whatever just that if you are more selective in how you spend your time then finding an hour spare here and there should be achievable.

If you go shopping together replicate that time on your bike say on a sunday morning. Tell her she can come with you! Other than food shopping you would not see me in a shopping centre. I have a busy life mostly working overtime (up at 4-00am this morning) and I need MY TIME to chill which is important for me or I am a real grumpy b****rd to be around. Cycling for me is a life long hobby and a big part of my life to which my loving wife^_^ understand's, but I also understand the balance of quality time together. I am up a 5.00am in the morning for a 3hr bike ride rain or shine and on my return home get the Sunday paper and make breakfast and then spend time with the family.....it can be done and there is more hours in the day than you think.....

Actually it is very serious this time. How do you find the time to go cycling? This is my dilemma as I am finding it more and more difficult to find the time to go for a ride. I am not making excuses, it is true: what with work, the Mrs wanting to go shopping, having visitors and visiting ourselves and ......the weather!!:banghead:
So I am just wondering how the rest of you find the time to go for a ride ( except a certain person who will remain nameless as I am sure he won't be reading this thread, bless him. )

Just get your priorities right man !

There can never, ever be any contest between shopping [unless for bike kit] and cycling !

And as for visiting grumpy old relatives......

I think you need to pull your finger out a bit.

What you say is true, how many sit and watch the box rather than being out?
Or for that matter, sit in front of a pc typing on forums......oh wait....^_^

I find that the only way I can do it is to work cycling into my daily routine....I cycle to work, I go shopping by bike where possible and visit friends and family by bike where feasible.

That way you are replacing the "dead" travelling time you would have spent cooped up in a car actually doing something you enjoy.

Purchase of a tandem may persuade your other half that you may be better off cycling alone ?

Most of my riding is commuting, other rides are usually Saturday mornings where I'm back for lunch/early afternoon so have the rest of the day for 'stuff'.

More or less the same for me, although generally earlier saturday morning starts for me.

I probably have a slight advantage over many of you that my wife now cycles, so she has more empathy and also by letting her go out on the bike means I acquire more tokens.

Note having children does make time management for cycling more important.

To the OP, I see you claim you don't have the time but if you're really honest I doubt that is true. Rather anecdotally you have time to post here for example. Sunrise is about 5am currently and it doesn't go dark until 9:30. The odd half hour to an hour here and there should be easily doable.
