How many fewer police are there, I thought it was only a few percentage drop.

About 20,000, a reduction of approximately 1/7th. The effect is disproportionately felt as typically community policing is viewed by the bosses as a luxury, so they get hit first in order to maintain response capacity.

There are exceptions, but many county forces are now little more than emergency response services, with some major crime investigative capacity thrown in, the latter often being shared with neighbouring forces to save money.

The government has slashed police funding, glibly telling forces they must become more streamlined and efficient, but when between 85 and 90% of your budget goes on staff, there's not much scope for efficiency savings made by 'smarter' working practices.

I don't condone criminal damage in any form, but cars really shouldn't be on pavements,
Agreed, but I don't think the OP was parked on the pavement. I had to negotiate my way around a bus on the pavement yesterday:ohmy:.
It was an unattended broken down bus with hazard lights flashing, but not so broken down that the driver couldn't get it on the pavement to block the way for pedestrians:angry::angry:

Sympathy to the OP & I strongly suspect parking on path or not does not deter knobbers from doing this at all, having recently had one replaced also the ridiculous expense !

However as above if we don't report - especially if regular occurrence nothing will change

And in Scotland, where Brandane lives, according to the official figures:
  • There were 17,245 full-time equivalent (FTE) police officers in Scotland on 30 September 2016.

  • This is an increase of 1,011 FTE police officers (+6.2%) from the 16,234 FTE police officers recorded at 31 March 2007.
According to Police Scotland webpage:
Under a single policing service we now allocate and operate our police officer posts over three tiers – local, regional and national. This ensures we have a core complement of officers who are always dedicated locally to community and response policing, and can then additionally draw on specialist expertise and resources to support local policing wherever and whenever they are needed. It means we have the right people in the right place at the right time to keep people safe and meet the needs of our communities.

I suppose if kicked wing mirrors were reported it would at least test whether there is local responsive Policing...

I would like every new build property to have off street parking for at least two cars, it will not happen of course.

Tony B.Liars government introduced planning guidelines which deliberately restricts the number of cars a new property can accommodate on site, supposedly as a means to discourage car ownership.

Of course, it does nothing of the sort and serves only to leave new builds crammed in tightly with unsightly lines of cars parking half up on the footpath.

That is beyond stupidity, and something I did not know about. Our latest one even had to have sufficient driveway for a fire engine to park on, according to the planners.

I see it all the time when driving and cycling, cars parked on the road, blocking cycle lanes etc because the owners are too lazy to park on their drive.

Wife said a Travis Perkins lorry came down our street the other week and just sat pressing the horn until the idiots moved their cars, quite comical really.

- and even if it did they wouldn't be used. How many people with garages ever put cars in them? They are simply utility rooms with big doors.
I have a driveway that can take two cars, and indeed it does. Forget the garage, the trike, freezer, workbench, gardening gear, tools, various bike bits and stuff that won't go anywhere else goes in the garage.
