Any benefit to proper cycling socks?

Never understood why there are cycling specific socks, but would be interested to hear the benefit of them, considering I can get about 5 pairs of coolmax sports socks for the same price as one pair of cycling specific ones.

I have some pricey Assos ones that I got for the Swiss flag that goes with my bike, and at 11 quid they are about as good as any others. I generally wear Decathlon running ones (the 800 model) which are noticeably more comfy than cheaper ones.

But as for special ones just for the bike, no!

Long time since I wore proper cycling socks. Wool, knee length in a nice tarten or diamond shape pattern. Those were the days!

you really do need the proper kit if you're going to get anywhere on a bike... I bought a pair of cycling socks for £18 from my LBS and haven't had a puncture since
