Methinks you missed the point......

Very likely.
If they had dialled 999, is being marooned on an island a police mater, an ambulance matter or a fire brigade matter?
They could have reversed the charges, muppets.
Thats has been management in companies with IT for many years
Many a time some moron - sorry manager (I get confused between the two) - went to a trade show and got sold some wonderful new system
and then innsisted that we somehow made it work with the current systems
I was normally the one that got landed on making them work together
and if it didn;t work as well as the salesman said it would then it was my fault
AI is just the newest bright shiny thing
in teaching is was always Apples Mac and iPADS - no idea what they could do with them but they spent thousands on them
and told teh parents there was no money left to have a breakfast club
I have seen the concept many times!!
I've always thought that salesmen selling new tech to clueless management causes no end of trouble. The people that actually end up having to use it could have saved the company money by telling them it's not really any good. But it's always too late by the time we see it. The simple ways are often the best.
The 'AI will take our jobs' thing that folk parrot annoys me as well, when the reality is that it's a combination of AI tech salesmen and greedy bosses who think they can save a few wages that will 'take your job', not AI all by itself.
Worst thing I have come across of techy sounding guff from sales people wasting money in school
was "its in the cloud"
OK - cloud based stuff has big advantages
butonly when it has those advantages - which you need to look at
far far far too much software was being sold to school as "in the cloud" when in reality you could spend £4.50 per computer and get something better
rather than spending £4500 for a site licence
and then have the amazing discount rate of only £20 per computer for "joining fee"
and the annual license fee of only £10 per connection
and the added advantage of the first year having an 80% discount on
etc etc etc
and at the end of the day I was being the grumpy old fart "that didn;t understand IT" for asking what learning advantage this gives to the kids and the school
Only the Gods know how much I saved my last school in getting simple cheap software that just worked because the Head always insisted on me looking at things and talking to sales people and believed me rather than them - and some other teachers!!!
bet the "academy" that has taken over has spent loads of money replacing stuff that worked perfectly well!!!
*sorry - end rant - but it did annoy me (other terms are available)
'The grumpy old fart that didn't understand IT' is always their answer.
Yes, I am a grumpy old (middle aged) fart, but I do understand it, and it's sh*t. The only bit I don't understand is why 'they' think it's better.
