That's not true. EMIS does have electronic auditing and records who accessed what records and when entries are made or amended. EMIS is GPSoC compliant.

The difference between the two is that the access is logged and displayed in System one so anyone can see straightaway who has been nosing around. No doubt the audit records are available, but this is only good if monitored.

i had a blood test done in August and have been ringing ever since to get my results , only to be told every time if it was bad news the gp would have rung you by now , so dont worry !
when i rung last week and got told same i said once again that wasnt really re assuring enough at this time so was put on hold and transferred to a GP who said exactley the same , so i asked for my results and that made him go quiet whilst he started shuffling paperwork around and then asked me why i had waited so long to ring , so i told him how many times i had rung and the answer i got given each time , he soon shut up

That is fairly standard, they only contact you if something is wrong, otherwise I imagine they would be swamped with having to do lots of pointless phone calls, letters, etc.

That said, I imagine they cannot reasonably refuse you if you ask to know what the results were anyway.

Do I need to get the spray plaster out?
Everyone in the Waiting Room hears what is said between the patient and the Receptionist at my local surgery even the 'phone is situated within earshot of the Waiting Room.
In the old surgery the patient went to a serving hatch type hole in the wall of the Receptionists office so there was a degree of privacy as most people had shoulders broad enough to fill the hatch opening.
I suppose the changes were required iin order to provide "transparency", a current buzz word I believe:whistle:

Ooh ours must be posh then they have a seperate room you can go in to if you don't want to discuss it in the open... that being said then everyone looks at the person entering and wonders what is wrong with them that they are going in there!

I rang for an appointment some time ago and asked what was wrong I said..............'If I knew that I wouldn't need the doctor'

An unamused sigh later I got a waspish reply................'A clue then, just for me'

No it hasn't. EMIS is still the most widely used system in the country, with SystmOne (note the spelling) trailing behind with about half the numbers of practices that use EMIS.

Just to give you the heads up, in my SHA days I worked closely with Connecting for Health and I still have close connections with what is now HSCIC...

I said that EMIS was used by this practice for at least 10 years in favour of systm one (yes I was aware of the dodgy spelling). The new system is a much more powerful arrangement than EMIS, and I would suggest that they have worked with EMIS long enough to decide whether it delivers the best solution for their requirements..they obviously didn't.....it has its drawbacks like any system, but they considered it a step forward.
