I haven't been on a deck since 1989 when I was hit by a car and shattered my hip, thigh and pelvis. Good to see you back on four wheels and remember that your never too old to sk8

I rode a bit in the seventies. The alley cat was the UK board to have. Black deck with yellow or red wheels. My son is now after what he calls a penny board which looks remarkably like a 70's board.

I made my own when I was a kid, it was a plank of wood with rollerskate wheels, I cut the corners off the front to make it more aerodynamic. It worked really well, we used to fire down the road we lived on all the time, some miserable old **** complained to my dad once that 'every time I look out of my window I see your kids on their skateboards', my dad told him not to look out of his window then, when he continued complaining dad told him to piss off. :becool:

Had a go this year on holiday, I couldn't make the bloody thing work at all!

I made one the same way back in 1968 or so. We used to hurtle down on our stomachs though - I'm not sure it occurred to us that we could stand up.

So all of who used to skate never actually got rid of our boards? Sounds like we might need a 'show us your deck' thread

Be careful how you spell your thread title...

I skated regularly when living in LA, as it was a natural extension of surfing. Great fun, and I got pretty good, won a few local competitions, but I'd not go back to it now as I've a knackered knee which couldn't take it.

Joanna Lumley for me. Or Felicity Kendal.....

And Mrs V yesterday announced that she might buy a jump suit because they are back in fashion..... I said 'Cor go on you'd look like Purdy....."

'Who the feck is Purdy' was her reply
 I'll have to show her the repeats of 'The New Avengers' on ITV4......

P.S Sorry Mr Culture, We'll stop these fantasies soon and get back skateboards......

I used to skate when I was a teenager and then the fad ended. I used to go to an indoor skatepark in Norwich and it was great fun and I got rather good at it. Not tried since though.
After that late 70's skateboard boom had ended, I got into rollerblading and skated right up until a little over 4 years ago when I smashed my wrist to smithereenies.

Nowadays I think that I'll stick to bikes.

I've seen those on sale for about £70! We called them banana boards and taking the wheels off what how I first learned not to open things that don't have cartridge bearings
