any pipe smokers here..?

I have an old Sherlock Holmes type which I haven't smoked for 20 years but still has a wonderful taste to it.

Balkan Sobranie has a nice taste but is a bit rich - I presume you can still buy it.

I did buy a cheap pipe a while back but only smoked it a few times. I can't remember the brand I smoked but it was quite nice; it had a slight whisky aroma to it and, if I remember rightly, the packaging had a tartan pattern to it.

I'm more of a snuff & chew man myself.

I like the occasional pipe. Not all the time - but some days, the ritual of preparation and the contemplative silence is just what I need. Aaaaaaaaah.

Alsbo Cherry - one I particularly enjoy.

another search - no more pipes - but found this
a teak box - signed by Matt Kallio on Granville Island, Vancouver and dated 09/1980
totally faded; but after much fine sanding and oiling it came up very well
just the size for the 5gram sample bags i've ordered from 2 suppliers

You could have a look at Brucciani of Carlisle, they seem to have a fairly extensive range,or Gawiths of Kendal. There is of course always Dunhill !

no car to travel i'm afraid - but have received some Dunhill samples
tried the mildest - Early Morning Pipe - the whole house now smells lovely - thank God i'm single..

I'll phone up Gawith about trying some of their Kendal mixes

thanks again

I'll put a Wanted thread up ---- but--- if anyone has an old pipe lying dusty in a drawer..?

I'd like to try some 'shapes' before splashing out on a new pipe

John,

I see you've ordered samples.

Bear in mind if they are radically different flavours, they will not smoke well in the same pipe.

I used to like coffee and caramel or cherry and vanilla, and occasionally a traditional non-flavoured blend.

It a bit of a faff, but I had a pipe for each.

Trying different pipes was part of the fun, but I settled on a Falcon, two stems, and several bowls, allowing for the different flavours and bowl rest periods.
