Norm, whereabouts in the Thames Velley?

I went to boarding school in Burford and my family are in Witney.
I'm a long way downstream from there, in Windsor.

There is only one other lens in the nikon line up that i think can trump the 85/1.4 and thats the 200/2 but that is a totally diferent beast, and stoopidly expensive. Imho. I have the poor mans version 180/2.8

Didn't like the 200 1.2 as much as the 300 2.8. But sold that as well! Also tried a 600 4.0, but didn't get on with that.

Got the 70 - 200 2.8 VR2 as my main walkabout or the 24 - 70 2.8 and for more range I use the 200 - 400 VR

If you do change settings to shoot floro or tungsten or whatever indoors, DO remember to change back to daylight before you put the camera away, otherwise the shots taken the next day will be shite.
Don't ask how I know this.

I do have an 85 1.8, but that's ancient tech to go with my old film bodies.

I'd donate testicles for the 85 1.4, probably even more than the 300mm 2.8, despite most of my work being motorsports, as tyres 85mm could be left on most of the time as the standard lens, whereas a 300mm wouldn't have a huge number of alternative uses.

Hi Norm the 200-400 VR is awesome for motorsports.

Last year at Goodwood Revival it was great on the Sunday. It started chucking it down with rain and I got the best position inside the track with the D3S and 200-400 on a tripod and gimbal. I have a Cameramac which goes over the camera and lens and had a great time shooting the spray coming off the cars!

I also use it for wildlife.
