Cracking a solo.
I'm looking at buying my daughter an RC heli with a camera for Christmas. We bought her a little indoor one last year which she's really enjoyed and she has hinted that she would like to have something she could use outdoors. I've been looking at this one which seems to tick the right boxes and also seems to be well thought of, but I thought I'd throw it out there in case somebody has some real world experience or expertise they could share.

Of course you bought them for your daughter!

Nice. I couldn't justify one for myself. Unless I can persuade Mrs.Pm I need one to inspect the gutters - obviously much safer than climbing a ladder <cough>.Think you can get gps modules from DJI as well, so it can be programmed to fly a pattern and a 'return to home' feature if it loses radio contact. Your daughter will need a spotter with her if she flys FPV as spotting it in the sky after leaving FPV is an issue.

I've have had a quadcopter/pond interface happen when flying a small camera equipped quad outdoors, not FPV though. Fortunately it did fly afterwards.

It looks like an awesome bit of kit and I'm almost sure it's the one to get, but as with most things I'd just like to see the evidence which says "Yep, that's the one, you wont get any better for that amount money." Expect a which bike thread from me sometime in the near future!

DJI do seem well liked as providing a complete package, there are alternatives but some seem a bit homespun and require a bit more technical knowledge or assembly skills. That said things have probably moved on a fair bit since I bought my quad last year, which was rated quite highly on forums at the time. As well as the camera it came with a bubble blower and water squirter accessories.
I've seen the DJI quads likened to Apple products, nice complete package and most will be love them - I would, but a little limiting for the more experimental/modding orientated flyer - the linux users of the quad world

My mate and me fly RC helis and he has progressed onto building and selling drones (quads, hex etc).

He has a shop site here but would happily to talk to you about options (more than willingly), tell him Ian referred you.

http://www.droneshop.biz/

He will also give you an honesty opinion of the DJI.
That's great, I'll take a look, thank you

Has she ever flown a large Quadcopter or a large helicopter.
