For a number of years now I've been toying with an application to become a Magistrate. recent changes have meant that I am now in a position to give it a try, and I have lined up some court vsits over the next few weeks.

Do any forum members have any experience of being a Magistrate, tips or advise?

You might have got the timing wrong with many magistrates' courts lined up for closure.

Tip: don't wear lycra in court.

Seriously though, my best wishes go to you. I would love to be more involved in the mechanism of society; I have considered (and even been invited) joining the Parish Council but I was put off by the kind of people who inhabit that area of life.

I became a school governor once. Nightmare! God, the bureaucracy and the endless dreary meetings. Good luck on being a beak though - has to be more interesting than that.
