Any Trekkies out there?

I was made redundant a couple of months ago and am using the opportunity to get down to writing a novel that has been kicking around in my head for years (Sort of Jeffrey Archer but without the prostitutes or lying).

It is set in UK in 1969 at the time of the moon landing (July) and characters have an interest in space and sci-fi.

I am trying to find out if Star Trek was on TV at that time or if it had been on. I have googled it but can not come up with the answer. It was aired in US in 1966 and came to UK in 1969 at some time. My guess is that it may have been saved until BBC1 went onto colour broadcasting in late in 1969.

Any Trekkies out there who can help?

I am confused, your avatar has a naked lady laid prone. The picture must be something that you are either knowlegeable about, hold dear to your heart, or are at least vaguely interested in. Just the sort of information authors harvest for novels - a subject they can write loads about with unquestionable authority.

Most prostitutes (apparantly ) adopt such a position and state of undress.

Yet you don't want to write a novel that contains either:

a, females who get paid (sometimes naked) for sex,

or

b, females in a reclined posture.

Jeffrey sold millions of books on that premise. Sod the artistic approach, get the girls on their backs with their kit off, you'll make a fortune!;)

Not a trekkie, but I enjoyed the programme (only the original series and crew - not watched ANY of the later stuff).

not just me then. an enjoyable show, but why it has become almost a religion for some people is a mystery to me. the same goes for star wars too.

I certainly seem to be heading in the wrong direction if you put it like that CP. Some research needs to be done! Not sure if Mrs OTH will agree.

Thanks all for info. Second episode "Charlie X" was aired the day before the moon landing (assuming they broadcast them in order).

I've never seen the Star War films, either!

I did enjoy Blake's 7, though.

But generally, sci-fi doesn't really do much for me. ;)

i loved blake's 7 - as a ten year old. i saw a repeat later in life and it ruined the memory of if completely.

i prefer sci fi of the likes of 2001 and alien, where the sci fi element is only part of the scenary.

There was a definition of trekkies and trekkers - and I can't remember which way it goes, but ....

How do you tell the difference between a Trekker and a Trekkie

At a Star Trek Convention and Marina Sirtis is taking questions ...

The Trekker asks what sex is like on a holodeck
The Trekkie asks what sex is like!

Caught one of the orignal series on TV the other day and though not much of a trekkie/trekker couldn't help but think of the costumes 'that would make a good looking l/s cycling jersey'

I'dalso like a badge communicator thing from later series, bluetooth enabled to use as a hands-free mobile phone kit in a Picard-esque style

'Make it so'

Actually I do sound like a trekkie. hmm
