I was in a former life, when I worked in the NHS. Helped set up a BUG and arranged pool bikes, etc.

Too busy to do it now...
What's a BUG?

At my hospital there are 1000's of employees yet I can count the cyclists on one hand. About a year ago I became aware of some initiative (Ha!) to encourage cycle use. I logged on and read it, I can't remember what, specifically, the incentive was, but it was useless, 10 mins extra pay per month or a foc cheese and onion pastie per annum, oh, and you had to go through some paper trail rigmarole to "prove" your car park space was free. The prose was so dreary and negative and came with so many clauses and exclusions that it was enough to make me want to give up cycling, not start! I think that the take up was, er, zero employees, that will be no doubt be a "success" on somebody's CV. These imaginative NHS managers are in demand in the private sector you know...............

I work for myself so I guess that would make me a bike champion. Obviously I'd have to appoint myself but I doubt there would be any objections. On a serious note every employer I have worked for in the past made it very difficult for me to commute by bike.

My last employer point blank refused to let me put my bike in the building despite the fact we had more than adequate storage space. As a result I had to leave it chained to the outside barriers (think armco style) in a busy industrial estate that was notorious for theft and vandalism. I can't imagine suggesting any type of cycle scheme would have gone down well at all.

We have a space inside the warehouse to keep our bikes safe the only thing that worries me is what happens in the event of a fire because the insurance claims would be colossal

Used to be one for the Halifax, when I worked in Leeds.

Folder usage went up when sunny, and people parked further away. "The Dalek" has killed it now though.
